With ATTYA, the echo is not in sync with your time?

Hey, no unfortunately I'm one of those "set it and forget it" guitarists, sorry.

Hi Adam,
it seems that I am the only one so far who is recording with your playbacks.
Maybe it would help if you could be more clear in your first post that you would like people to post their versions with your playback.
Anyway, here is a version of SMPWC. I tried playing it on electric but the color was too similar to your recording so I used my nylon.
I meant to play the melody again at the end but I missed it! I had the guitars panned right and left but after uploading to YouTube the encoding seemed to have shifted my track more to the middle.
If you like I could also post this in the "Songs" section to encourage other players to participate in your project.
Thanks for the nice playback!

Hey Question, good to hear from you again!

Yeah, maybe I'll add it in the first post. I mean, I'm also happy if people are just playing over it for their own pleasure or to study, but also have to admit that it's beautiful hearing a recording like yours, playing virtually together.
That's a great idea, thank you. Would love to hear more musicians play over. Not only to encourage other players to participate, but also to share your beautiful take on Someday!
Pleasure, thank you for playing together!

Hi Adam,
glad you liked it. I am playing a Sadowsky electric nylon that Roger built for me around 1992.
I also posted this duo in the "Songs" section, with a note to encourage others to post their versions using your various playbacks in this thread.
While discussions can sometimes be interesting I much prefer to hear someone play, especially when they are discussing how they would theoretically play this or that harmonic/melodic idea.
For all of the effort that you are putting into your play-along tracks, I am surprised that no one else has posted anything.
Anyway, thanks for the nice tracks, and if I find some time and inspiration I might try another one.
-
Well, it's a very nice sounding guitar under your fingers.

Totaly agree, it's interesting reading the theoretical side, but listening to ideas created together it's really enjoyable.
Man, you're always welcome. Hope to hear more solos and playing virtually together. I'll try to record more next week.
Greetings from Slovenia!

Hi Adam,
I had some time today so I recorded this version of Beatrice.
Sorry, I had some trouble getting the two videos and audio to synchronize exactly!
Really like this song but never properly learned it before.
I didn't like the sound of two clean guitars together; not enough contrast, so my track has a bit of dirt.
I did a short version with just the melody that I will post in the "Just the Melody" thread to see if we can get some other members to record something with your playbacks.

It's a great tune, one of my all time favorites. I really enjoyed the phrasing and variation that you did in the last theme!
Thanks a lot, let's see if others will try a version played together.

I played along to "Days of Wine and Roses"
Basically, I played the youtube video from the computer and recorded myself with my phone, nothing fancy. But when I tried to sync them later, the youtube version was slightly faster. I messed around with using Handbrake to give the two identical constant frame rates, but that didn't seem to change the discrepency.
In the end I manually slowed one slightly so they matched, but there has to be a better way!
Does anyone have any tips for syncing videos together?
-
Supersoul,
glad to see someone else also playing along with Adam's tracks.
I don't know how much I can help you as I am an audio, and not a video guy, but here is how I record.
I download the video from YouTube, then import it into Logic Pro.
When I import the video into Logic it asks if I want to match the video frame rate to the Logic project and I say "yes".
I then record my track with a mic on my amp into Logic while listening to the playback on my studio monitors and filming on an iphone.
I don't get very good track separation this way since I am not wearing headphones, but it doesn't matter much because I am not editing my guitar track afterwards , it is always a complete live take like yours.
In my Iphone I set the frame rate to 25fps since I am used to working with PAL formats.
Just to be clear, I don't use the audio from my phone at all.
When I am finished recording I do an audio mix of the playback track and my guitar take and later export/bounce the movie and audio-mix out of Logic as a Mpeg4 movie.
If you look closely at several videos that I have uploaded there are often some sync problems where it seems to be compensating for dropped or added frames. This is good enough for the forum but my method is definitely not pro level!
Of course my method requires some music software that can sync audio to video.
If you don't have any music software, you could play the video on your computer screen and film yourself on your phone playing with the video playback visible in the background.
A question for you; how did you resize the playback video? I only have imovie so I don't know if this is possible.

iMovie

Good tip about setting the iPhone frame rate to 25fps.

Also, great story telling in the impro. I liked a lot the second chorus of your solo and the preparation with the repeated phrase before.
About the tips for recording, when I need a youtube video in my frame I download first just the audio (mp3) with any online converter, put the audio file in the audio recording software (Cubase in my care) and record.
For the video part I download the youtube video with any online video downloader and put the frame in frame in the video editing software (LumaFusion) and paste the audio on it. I also don't use the audio from the camera/phone.
Hope to see other versions!

Thanks for listening! It's a long track, nearly 6 minutes, and so I made sure to take my time and to start in a way that I could build off of. Plus, I didn't just want to play on top of what you're doing, but to play with you. Your accompanyment sounds great on its own, and I don't want to get in the way of that.

A much better way is to put the audio in a DAW and play along with it that way, then sync it all up later. The guitar can also be recorded better (not just a phone mic in a somewhat boomy room).
The best way I've found for downloading videos is a command line program called yt-dlp. It lets you batch download entire playlists, and you can set the format in which the files are saved. There are sites that also do this, but I find them to be fiddly and inconsistent.

Very nice playing and the sound is really good now. Did you record it in the DAW now?
Best, Adam
