IMO the Vanilla Book is an invaluable resource. It doesn't provide the hippest changes possible, and doesn't claim to. It just gives the basic vanilla chords, and it's up to the player to augment them with extensions to taste. I prefer not to have to deal with umpteen extensions on every chord when I'm learning or just refreshing a tune, I just want the basic changes which I can embellish later. If I'm playing rhythm I'm probably not using more than 3 notes most of the time anyway. I've had the Vanilla Book on my computer for years, in both HTML and PDF versions. But that's just one part of the site. The backing tracks are good and solid.
Unfortunately, it appears that the site no longer exists in its original state. I get the demand for credentials that others have noted, which were never needed before, and there is no way that I can find to register, so the internet archive seems to be the only option if one doesn't have the downloaded already.
