Wes greatly simplifies the chord progression in his solos. No Eb-7 Ab7 just a regular A-7b5 D7 turnaround. Also in the second part of the tune there is no three bars of G-7 then C-7 F7, just 4 bars of G-7 then Bbmaj7 begins. It is amazing how many people don't notice that and just solo through the real book changes, which are just the head changes.

really? i've only studied the incredible jazz guitar version in detail but at the end of the first A it is a plain Ebm7 Ab7 every single time. 1st chorus Ab13: F Eb Db C Bb Ab. 2nd chorus Ebm7 Ab7: Eb Gb Bb Db C. 3rd chorus Gbj over Ebm7 Ab7: Gb Bb Db C etc.

The score omits the Eb - Ab bit on the choruses. Listening that version is slower and simpler than Smokin at the Half Note.
It seems that things can be fluid on the choruses as long some kind of resolution to the root - dominant harmonies are in there.

i dont need a transcription for that one ;=)
