To my ears, Howard Alden is a good example of comping in a guitar duo. IMHO.

I really like Frisell counterpoint approach, he plays almost nothing but you still feel it is there.

Vic is a super underrated accompanist … his duos with his wife are incredible as well.

Not sure this video is the best example (it's just the first one that came up on a youtube search) but I always liked the way Bobby Rose comped behind Pat Martino.
I saw them live a couple of times in 1977. Really sensitive support from Mr. Rose.
