Do you have a chord type that you use one place in one song?
For example... Stella: I sometimes substitute a single chord for
the usual chord change Bm7 - Eb7, I don't know what to call it.
    9 x 8 10 10 x (usually this way)
    9 x 8 10 10 8
    9 8 8 10 10 8
    x 4 3 3 6 5

That's a Bbm#7 (minor triad + maj.7th), a pretty dissonant chord which most would be inclined to resolve. I suspected you are weird, paul, now you've confirmed it.

But in answer to your question, I tend to add chords to progressions for contrapuntal reasons, not eliminate them.

    BbmM7/Db?

EDIT: Just saw your response, Mick.

Yeah that first voicing is a nice one.

Might seem like an oddball relative to the Bbm7 but the Eb7 going to F would almost certainly have a sharp 11 in it, so I like that voicing there.
