I purchased a mint condition Camps more than a month ago. I put a set of Daddario Pro Arte on it and still wondering why I don't like the guitar--thin in tone, no real low end-for lack of a better way to put it-just feels cheap, except that it's not a cheap guitar--beautiful Black Ebony Rear and Cedar top.

Also playing an Esteve Model 11 Spruce top and night and day in terms of tone with a new set of Savarez normal tension: rich bass response, great sustain and clarity. Love the Esteve.

Can the difference in overall feel and tone, at least to my ears, be assigned to strings? I'm thinking not, and have not yet put a set of Savarez on the Camps.

Thank you for any insight here.

Pro arte has earned pretty sour reputation both for lower quality control and a huge problem with knock off/fake strings. I'd replace them and see.

They used to be very reliable

I have a Camps SP6 and for years I used to use D’Addarios on it, but for some reason I went off them recently. Just sounded a bit thin and harsh, whereas before they sounded ok. I don’t know if the strings have changed in some way, or whether it’s just me.

Anyway after some experimentation I have ended up using Augustine Red Imperials which seem to suit my guitar better, much warmer sounding. So I think strings can make a difference.

Those are steel strings, I suspect different types of nylon on a classical can make even more difference.

Yes, the classical guitar is a specific instrument.
I"m constantly experimenting with nylon strings on three of my classic guitars.

I majored in classical guitar and i can tell you that finding the right set of strings for a guitar is best done by trying a wide variety of strings.I just tried Aquila strings last year and like them very much especially their Ambra 2000 but what sounds good on my guitar might sound meh on yours. The Aquila line is not that expensive so trying a variety of them is not as bad on your wallet as some of these other brands.
