Thoroughly inspired by you guys I thought I'd put myself out there. Warts and all recording from an iPad.

Any advice how I can improve or doll it up?

Nice. I'd like it better without the twang.

this song has quite a history...

    Nature Boy - Wikipedia

Also..Herman "Dutch" Rhodes a second rate professional wrestler..used the song title when he changed his name and became
the a world champion..Buddy "Nature Boy " Rogers..others used the song title in their name (Ric Flair)..but none had the style Rogers used in the ring.

Yeah I have real issues dialing in a decent jazz tone. When I roll off the treble it always tends to get too muddy.

Well I really like the sound. Not everyone has to sound like a bop guitarist with a blanket on their amp. OTOH a Strat is gonna Strat.

I'm not seeing anything with your picking that would work against your producing a more traditional jazz tone should you want it. I think it might be a strings and EQ issue. I'd maybe dial the treble down on the amp and leave it wide open on the guitar? (I'm sure you've tried that)

That said I usually roll off to about 8 on my 335 when I play jazz, so...

Playing wise, if you haven't done this, try playing this in strict tempo. You may not want to play it like this but rubato should always be an interpretative choice.

I think the arrangement works fine and I can hear the melody strongly.

You can go deeper into the arranging side of it later. I would look to find a few different ways of harmonising and arranging the A section, see if you can find some things to fill up the gaps in the middle voices once you have a strong sense of the time.
