I have attached a couple of fake book indexes I have. The "Fake Books Master Index" lists many jazz standards (a lot!) and indicates which of the following fake books they're in: Real Books 1, 2, or 3; New Real Books 1, 2, or 3; Bill Evans Real Book; The Colorado Cook Book; JazzFake book; Jazz LTD; Library of Musicians' Jazz book.

The JDM Jazz Fakebook Index is an index of about 2 dozen fake books and also Jamey Aebersold Play Alongs.

P.S. - The Jazz LTD fake book is on the site that Bop Head posted a link to, but the attached copy is about 1/3rd the size.

"Dating back to the 1940s, jazz musicians used Fake Books for their nightly gigs. These Fake Books contained basic melodies or chords-the cliff notes of full compositions-enough for musicians to “fake” their way through a tune. Although popular, these books were illegally produced and distributed. In the 1970s, two Berklee students put together The Real Book, a more organized version of Fake Books, but it still failed to acknowledge copyright law and the composers who created these musical pieces. Various editions were produced over the years, but none of them were above board...Hal Leonard acquired the Real Book materials to bring musicians the first legitimate and legal version of the Real Book. The Real Book 6th Edition acknowledges the previous five illegal editions with its title and its contents..."

Also, this: Hal Leonard is very proud to present the first legitimate and legal editions of these books ever produced. You won't even notice the difference, other than that all of the notorious errors have been fixed."

I'm sure many errors remain, but as an owner of the RB c. 1975, I believe it has been improved significantly.

And I told him how to reduce the size of his pdfs.

Great Gig Book (a.k.a. Blue Book) might not be public domain. I am not sure about the pdf, but I purchased the printed book from the author in San Francisco area on the advice of Glen Rose (the jazz pianist) a number of years ago. The book was quite expensive, so you might want to check on the pdf. So I am not pointing fingers or taking part in a discussion on copyright other than just informing that this particular pdf is from a book that is a commercial product.

By the way, a tip I got from Glen is that the Hal Leonard Real Book series specifically for "high voice" is what he said cocktail pianists are using these days. I bought those and what I have tried for chord melody did not require me to transpose for a better fit on the fretboard.

Thank you but there is no publisher named in the book and I don't see it for sale anywhere. It can be found on quite a few websites, e.g., archive.org -- Great Gig Book (Blue Book) : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive

Besides, the site owner will take it down if he receives a copyright notice about it.

Given that the word book stems from the Proto-Germanic b?ks and the meaning of that word, it more or less follows that "digital fake books" is a pleonasm

(I admit, I didn't feel like posting in one of the "what are you ????? now" threads )
