i'm bored. is there a nice gig somewhere, that is worth travelling to? paris, london, hamburg, amsterdam, brussels? mainstream jazz. is jim mullen playing somewhere next week? i see he has a nice gig/chatting session in london this week, but that's too short notice. next good concert here (ruhrpott, germany) is PB with goldings and stewart in april. help!

Yes.
What type of music or examples of bands are you looking for?
-
mainstream jazz. something good. no local bands. there are no good websites with events on the web anymore. everything is scattered. took me 15 min to find out where jim mullen is playing the next weeks and i probably missed a lot. jazzconcerts . com lists 2 (!) concerts for amsterdam in march. and appearantly i just missed the euro winter tour of sarah hanahan.

Julian Beige is going to be my name for him going forwards as he continues his evolution into normal person music

What I wouldn't give to get out of Texas and to Europe for a weekend....
If I was in Europe I could probably see an actual pro blues band. Austin area has become a shell of what it used to be so quality blues is pretty slim pickings now. Sad but true. There are a few jazz clubs here though if anyone is ever coming through.
Somehow jazz clubs held on to an identity but blues clubs turned into blues rock turned into fleetwood mac and tom petty and then went belly up. There is one operating club in the entire state that I'm aware of that still ONLY books blues and it's in Houston.

over here it is usually a mix of blues bands and tribute bands in those clubs as well. i recently went to gigs by poppa chubby and laura chavez. which were both great. i still wanna hear rick estrin who has the best blues guitarist on the scene today, kid andersen.

The Kid is a great player. I'm not much a fan of rick estrin or poppa chubby though.
