Here is me playing in a flat cap to cover my bald head.
I was playing a few songs with Trefor Owen last week. It's Autumn, so I decided to play 'Autumn Leaves'.
Trefor is so good at '4 to the bar' comping, he's aged 84 and getting younger every day, such an inspirational player and character.
I think I play better in a Flat Cap.

Do you know if Trefor Owen still has his Mapson guitar? Pretty sure Jim built one for him.
I've still got my thick silver mane at 69 years old. Baldness didn't run in the family but premature gray did. Dad still had a full head of hair when he passed at 89, all gray. So no hats for me, the gray makes me looked "seasoned" as I've been told!

He has had quite a few extremely nice guitar over the years.
Here is a pic of some of Trefor Owen's guitars taken in the 1990's.

To hat or not to hat? Blame the general demise on JFK
I like them and at 73 from a distance with the fluff-up shampoo can still mount a respectable formation up there.
In general when gigging If I had one I would remove on stage, but I say to each their own.
If hat is the choice go to a good hat shop and take their advice. Not every hat looks good on every head.

I'm not bald, but my wife says I need a cool gig hat. All the other guys in the band have either hats or headbands. I tried on everything from trucker caps to berets, I don't look good in hats. I blame it on my bass player, he has lots of cool hats and he can pull them off. Rasta hats even. It's always the bass player who gets to be cool.

When I was younger and had a full head of hair, I'd wear an appropriate hat if I was in the direct sun or if my head was cold. Now that I'm mostly bald, I wear an appropriate hat if I'm in the direct sun or if my head is cold. I never could and still can't pull off a fedora like Sinatra or Bogart, but I can pull off the fedora a lot better than I can pull off skin cancer.

I don't do many gigs outdoors here in the UK but when I do it's generally under cover and very often, particularly in Wales there's no sun and it's invariably raining.

I wore a flat cap the other day but it was cold and I couldn’t find my beanie

Life is short. Do what makes you happy.

I've got a spot on the top , but at 70 still plenty of hair. I always were a Fedora/ Panama .
It keeps the stage lights out of my eyes and the hair out of my way.

Appropriate?
