    Yes!

    Two "Mister Magic" memories:

It's 1975-76, I'm in ninth grade. Dad drives me from Hartford down to Wesleyan in Middletown to see Grover Washington tour his new hot boss hit, "Mister Magic." I'm in; Dad is not. It's my first time going to a hip, hot concert without an adult. Mister Washington knew what people were there for: He played "Mister Magic" as the first song and again as the closer!

Same year. I've been playing bass guitar for about a year. I am obsessed with jazz. I'm playing along to "Mister Magic." 9th-grade me is playing that bass part, "Bup. Bup, bup, bup bup." 9th-grade me notices that Gary King is playing, "Boom. Boom, boom, boom boom." The world explodes as 9th-grade me realizes that how long you hold that note changes the music.

    Magic indeed!
