Chopped the tip of my left-hand third finger off last night while cooking. My wife is suggesting I did it on purpose to avoid going to the monthly jam tomorrow night. Last time I called off because it was raining, time before that I had food poisoning. As excuses go, this I think is my best so far.

Go and just listen

Ouch!!
Didn't Tony Iommi do something similar? Perhaps a Black Sabbath tribute band is in your future?

Django Reinhardt guitar method?

Thanks all! Just to be clear, it's really a minor injury, but enough to make using my third finger too painful at the moment. Dinner was good, though

Yeah, my wife and I will probably go and just listen.
For this afternoon, I'm going to use the Django method to at least practice my stuff slowly.

Cripes! Hope you recover quickly?

Thanks for no pics - I can't stand the sight of blood, especially on finger tips!
I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thanks, but it really is minor. Must be a circle less than half a centimetre in diameter that I removed.

The bit I cut off was much smaller than Cliff's but it included a sliver of nail.
I've since learned to use my knuckles to keep the cutting edge away from my fingertips ... and promptly cut my right hand with the knife's heel. Twice
I don't think I've often been kept from playing by this kind of injury btw; it's surprising how little invasive a properly applied bandaid can be.
