On Amazonas, the comping varies from a straight Joao Gilberto 1 2 3& type pattern (if you think in 4/4 it's a 1 bar pattern) to a two bar pattern with the downbeat (less syncopated bar) first.

The drummer seems to be playing a 2 bar pattern more often with the second bar not quite on the tamborim pattern. I'm not saying it's wrong, but I think it can make it harder to get in the pocket.

Or, I could be wrong.

You might be right, they are tunes I'd never heard about and you can imagine what kind of gig it was.
