The old time swing quintet has come to an abrupt end so I won't be using this Loar quite so much for a while.
So the 175 is going to have airing in a new project - guitar, bass and trumpet. Something a bit more main streamy. Looking forward to it.

I enjoy my guitar, bass, trumpet trio greatly. Best of luck to you!

That's very kind, thank you.

This is a pretty good list of no drums trio albums. If you need inspiration.
Just a moment...
I’d love to hear a recording if you make any.

Chet Baker once said, "It takes a pretty good drummer to be better than no drummer at all."

Did you talk tunes ahead of time? I prefer to be practiced for rehearsal.
How do you approach it?

Yeah, we decided a bunch of standards. I've played a huge amount of standards as a gigging bass player (having started in the 70s) but not as a guitarist. I was in a couple of GJ ensembles as a guitarist in the 90s and covered a fair few then. More recently I've been on guitar (the Loar) playing written arrangements of 20s/30s jazz. That's the band that recently folded but it's the trumpet player from that band that is 'managing' the new trio.

We had an very enjoyable 3 hour session today and we've agreed to do some more!!
I have to say, the bass player, who I hadn't met before, said he loved the sound of my 175 through the Polytone. So did I !! He didn't say so much about my playing!
ps next rehearsal, I'm going to threaten the others with some vocals.

Do you have a scribe in your group? If you have someone who can write up arrangements, you'll be a level above the average jazz band.
-
We are all readers and could write down arrangements. If I understand you correctly I don't think we will be going totally in that direction. Both the trumpet player and I have been playing together where all the written music is published copies of mostly 20s and 30s jazz. We want to get away from that discipline. A couple of the members of that now defunct band weren't able to experiment with improv. It's early days for the new trio but I'm hoping we can get some not too complicated arrangements sorted that we can remember rather than written.

Nice pickup added to the Loar. Which pickup did you select?
