p.s.
although a lot of great players have used this book, i have to say that most of them are not among my favorites, and of my favorites, probably most of them never touched it; joe pass, wes, all the rock guys, charlie parker, miles, lenny breau, etc. so, my theory is always, study as you see fit, and don't force yourself to study stuff you don't dig. plenty of great players existed without this, or any other, books.

Dear all,

I read through the post with great interest and thought to share some thoughts with you regarding Slonimsky's book at "Incorporating the Sound of Nicolas Slonimsky’s Pattern no. 626 in Jazz Improvisation".

Peace & Respect,

JK

Hi Jsep,

Very glad that you've found it useful:-) It was no easy task writing it after all...(mainly because it has been really hot/humid in my region for days...brain stops functioning after Heat-Index hitting 100F) In any case, here is a follow-up to the previous post "John Coltrane’s Improvised Line in Milestones as a Model for Incorporating Sequential Patterns in Jazz Improvisation". It casually chats about incorporating extensive sequential patterns (Slonimsky's patterns are of course nice candidates for that) in our solos.

Peace,

JK
