I think you can play very well with a good backing track ... better for a jam session with random musicians, I'm sure of that.
...after that, the musician at home can concentrate.

You can also export the IReal tracks as a MIDI file and import the MIDI file into your daw. Once the MIDI is imported into your DAW, you can do stuff like: edit at the individual note level or change the virtual instrument to something with more realistic sounding samples. Logic has a "humanize" function that allows you to apply very small, random fluctuations to velocity and note placement—other DAWs probably have something similar.

Wow. Are you guys really putting all that into your backing tracks for the VJ forum? No wonder so many sound so good. You make me feel like a lazy bum!

I’ve made a few of my own, but most are straight off YT. I’m about to record a bass track to back another shot at CYE as a bossa this afternoon.

If I was doing a backing track in a DAW, I wouldn't have had a chance to play any tune in one week...

Yes, one could do a fantastic job with backing track as many here prove week in and week out. Personally for me, I like part of the challenge to not only be a new song I’ve never played, but also doing it to a track I’ve spent less than 15 minutes with. I try capturing as much spontaneity as possible. I typically do about 5 or 6 takes, and generally it is the 2nd or 3rd I post.

This doesn’t count learning the head (if I choose to). I almost always learn the head by transcribing a version, practice to iReal, then move on to the backing track performance.

After a while it’s a mechanical process, really, and sounds more complicated than it is. Last week I recorded with nothing but my phone mic, and I’m also happy just doing that.

I just laid down a simple bass track on my trusty old P bass, with Mr Midi on the drums. I usually play bossas on my flat top, but I thought I'd give this one a try finger style on the archtop.

Here's a build with rhythm and lead guitars over the bass and drums backing track I made earlier. Both guitar parts are on my flat top.

Yes, "humanize" can help. I don't use iReal, but other backing track generators like jjazzlab and BIAB let you change the virtual instrument to another, even one not in the same 'family', and also of course, adjust the mix. That plus choosing a variation that plays the way I want is usually enough. I haven't needed to spit it out into a sequencer or a DAW for a while. In fact I don't have a sequencer installed at the moment, just a DAW (I use Ardour).

Here's my take, playing with a souped-up backing track—drum sample from Drum Genius, bass from Mr. Sunny Bass, piano originally brought from IReal manipulated in Logic to become a B3 organ and try to sound a little more realistic. It's kind of a waste of time, I guess, but it feels a bit more natural for me to play along with something like this.

Oh, lord. I know my post came directly after yours but the 'you' in it didn't refer to you personally, it was a general 'you', meaning anybody. I said it because I don't think people like the slow stuff. Also my quality's lousy.

Even if it had referred to you (which it didn't) it was still humorous with a smiley at the end.

That's all. Why am I misunderstood all the time? I have no motive. It's getting wearisome. I'm bored with it.

I liked it. A suitable minor key tune for a dirge.

Oh, well, I feel better now :-)

Seriously, it does suit being done in a variety of tempos and styles. I sat down and just wanted to do it slow. Bossas are frequently slow but the syncopation makes it interesting. But I did think the swing rhythm on this version might see it through... maybe not.

You criticize yourself and do not encourage listening - that's how I understood it.
For what purpose are you publishing it?
Slow stuff can also be played beautifully.

This came out fantastic, one of your finer performances!
