Hi,
Sorry if this interrupts the flow of the thread, but virtual jam? Can you expand on how that works?
Surely you can't all play live together over an Internet connection?

It’s not a jam in that sense. Everyone just posts their individual take on the tune, however they want to do it.

Absolutely, you've got it

I've seen that site too, the problem is no-one else offers the album for streaming/download, which suggests it has not been made available. So I’m not sure how legit that site is. One euro 26 for the whole album on a site that seems to specialise in Greek and Russian music? I have my doubts whether Jesse van Ruller will see any of that.

I have no idea. To be honest, if I wanted to hear it, at that price I'd pay it. Jesse wouldn't get much out of it anyway so he'll no doubt survive. What I'd be more concerned with - if the site is dodgy - is giving my payment details. But generally I get a warning about this sort of thing if I get to the payment stage.

There's also this. Discogs are reputable, I've ordered from them in the past and they're fine. They also do Russian stuff (or used to before the unmentionable).

Discogs is fine, I’ve got several obscure things from them. But I don’t think anyone is selling that JVR CD there at present (I’m not entirely sure, but I think they keep the listing so people can put in a request for it).

Tricky tune, eventually got my fingers round it! I used the Aebersold track but I fired the pianist, I preferred the bass and drums sound.
-
Well done, Graham, that's how to do it! It was the start-stop aspect of it that put me off but you walked nicely through it. Time you were mentioned in dispatches, I think.
I fired the pianist

Thanks guys. I found it quite difficult at first to play good connected lines over the initial chords (i.e. D to B to Ab), I had to shed that quite a lot. Useful practice though, because I can see that sort of movement also occurs in the last section of Inner Urge (a tune I have only dabbled with, not tackled properly yet).
-
A very interesting composition ... but so far I do not know in what key it is written.

This tune can be a problem because it has an interesting chord changes.
All chords are known only differently compared to the so-called jazz standards.
I've found that playing long phrases makes it easier to beat this great tune.
-
a little inner urge bridge hack you might be able to get some mileage out of: over D play relative minor(B minor), and then over B play B major obviously. Then the sequence repeats a whole step below where you started ( C to A) and you play Amin-Amaj. Etc. you may already known this but it really helped me with that tune when someone showed me that.

yes I think I was doing some stuff like that on Punjab, certainly found that thinking in minor on some of those chords helped join up the lines and voice-leading.

Thank you.

Still struggling a bit with this one, hope you dont mind the grunting lol

I tried playing this tune but realised my reading isn’t really up to it.
i think I’d have to learn it which kind of defeats the thread point, no?
-
Head not required. But...when I saw Reg comment on the tune's difficulty I showed myself the door.
