I got this from a Rich Severson lesson, and I think it is great. The formula is to vary what you play, not lock in a rigid structure.
So the concept is there is 5 parts:
1. 4 bar blues riff
2. 2 bars "space" (only play a few notes), chords sound good
3. 2 bar 251
4. another 2 bar 251
5. 2 bar blues riff restating or relating to the 4 bar one.
The cool part is he showed how you can mix these in almost any order.
What do you think?
also: this is soloing obviously not comping
