    Hi!
We all know there are thousands of tutorials on how to improvise on Blue Bossa.
For my latest video, which I posted on YouTube, I tried something a little different: during the solo, I used the notes of the original Blue Bossa melody as much as possible.

I'd like to know if you think the result is good or if it's predictable and monotonous.
I hope that by enabling the subtitles translation, you can understand what I'm explaining in the video.

    Thanks!

    Ettore

    First of all THANK-YOU!

To be honest I'm not 100% sure of the meaning of "idiomatic lines" .....but I suspect that is a good thing.

    Love from Italy!

I particularly liked your lines over the ii7b5 > V7. Very helpful thanks.
BTW I wrote a similar reply some days ago but obviously forgot to click 'Submit reply'! but my excuse is I will be 70 this year!!!

I don't know either but pretty sure it's better than "idiotic" lines (hopefully they didn't just misspell that word).

Idiom in this context means your lines sound like proper jazz.

He needs to start with a performance at the correct tempo so we can hear how good it is, then break it down afterwards.

Kind of an oddball thing but all your phrases (really almost all) end on downbeats.

Worth noting that Kenny Dorham’s solo on the original version basically consists of just the melody, with some embellishments, rhythmic variations and a few interspersed phrases. So it’s a great example of thematic improvisation.

I don’t know whether equenda mentions that anywhere in the video though, I only watched the intro, with translation of course.

    Kenny’s solo starts at 1:00.
