Those are all coming up...
All of Me is already on there! (with the REAL change in the last line that everybody plays wrong!)
in fact "in a sentimental mood" we are uploading tonight...
"moonlight in VT" already recorded as well as a couple others...
but yeah, those are all on the list...we will be up to 80 tunes or so by the end of the year
-
2 versions of "girl from ipanema" with the real brazilian cats playing (duduka fonseca etc.)
.... one in the original Joao Gilberto Db key with those simpler changes... and another the "real book" type version in F... those guys played both beautifully!
-
I haven't looked at the app yet, but I like idea the of having the history and background material to deepen under standing and appreciation of the songs.

A review:
-
I haven't seen anyone mention this, but.....can you compose your own song progressions/changes to practice over? Thanks
-
Sounds really good listening to it on the YT review.Unfortunately it is a subscription model which makes it a hard no for me.
-
I purchased it the other day. I've really been enjoying the app. The feel is great. I look forward to all the additional tunes. Thank you!

Well, the cats gotta get paid. They're trying to make a living and musicians do not operate as charities. They've got rent to pay, food to buy, health insurance to cover, kids to clothe and feed, etc. Getting $100 for a club gig is not gonna cover those things, especially in New York City- you'd have to gig 20 nights a week!

There have been a lot of upfront costs, I suspect, paying the developer(s) and musicians. Something that seems to be unique about this particular app is having historical information about the song to increase the depth of the musician's understanding. That is, to me, the most intriguing part of it. When I listen to top drawer musicians playing jazz, I'm always struck by the depth of understanding they bring to a song; they are not just playing over the changes. They have a personal history with the music as well as understanding that song's cultural history as well. They've heard performances by other great musicians, they might know something about the composer, etc. Amateur/hobbyist musicians like myself tend to approach a song as a sonic jigsaw puzzle to be negotiated and solved, rather than as a living, breathing entity with its own life history to which we become part of. As a result, our own (or at least my own) playing often lacks that depth. I can hear it when I listen to recordings of myself.
I don't have a problem with a subscription model for something like this, what I have a niggle with is when the subscription cost is not listed upfront in the app store. It is something that app developers do in hopes that you will download it for "free" (even though it's often essentially non-functional without the subscription), then feel like you're already in and make the purchase; they believe that if you see the price upfront, you're not even going to download it in the first place. Maybe that's true, I am not an app developer; I have deleted a lot of apps that I downloaded because the subscription price was above what I felt the value of the app was to me once I saw it. I just appreciate having that information upfront, it makes me feel like the developer considers me an intelligent human customer.
JK has been really creative about developing revenue streams besides gigging and record sales. Neither of those is going to be sufficient anymore, nor will services like Spotify and a YouTube channel. He's got online lessons (Explorations of Note), master classes, at least one book (Offerings of Note), his recent welcome effort in bringing back the old style D'Andrea Pro Plec (which is not gonna make him rich and may actually be charity work), etc. All of this is stuff he should make money from. I think this is the kind of entrepreneurial thinking that is necessary for jazz musicians to have a stable income these days and more power to him. And he does it all with an attitude of generosity towards the jazz guitar community, rather than an attitude of making boatloads of money. Living in Minnesota, I've only had a chance to see him live once and was able to have a chat with him during the set break. Very nice man, humble, not at all arrogant despite his prodigious chops.
Obviously I'm going to download the app.
I sound like a shill!

Not a bad price either. Might give a whirl for a couple months. Being a teacher, I probably shouldn't even be thinking about it ... just smash that pay and subscribe button, y'know.

We don't know for sure that the op, Jonnyquest, is Jonathan Kreisberg, do we?
-
Lol. I guess we don’t.

Then again you also don’t know that I am Peter. I could just be some guy out here pretending to be a mediocre nobody. It would make about as much sense.
For what it’s worth, if anyone out there is genuinely concerned that this isn’t JK, the app itself most definitely is JK’s either way.
-
How do you know that? I looked at the app website, only an anonymous LLC contact is given.

I this for real? I love this guy, great player and composer, the app looks terrific too
Be great to share some thoughts with Mr Kreisberg here!

I'd just like to add a "Welcome to the forum!" to Jonathan. His One album is one of my favorites of all time. I'll definitely be checking out The Feel Book. Cheers.
-
Has anyone compared The Feel Book to Quartet?
-
Subscription service rules it out for me.
I think it sounds great.

Hi Mick! yes it's me, JK... hi from gigs in Mexico.
-
By the way!! Free trial period this month for sign ups... simply cancel free of charge if you don't dig it.... but you will! haha. See you guys there. it's a blast at THE FEEL BOOK

I’ve been using The Feel Book for about a month and I’m hooked. As long as they keep adding tunes I’ll be happy to keep my subscription. Quartet has a far bigger library, and it is quite good too, but The Feel Book is next level. The recordings are nuanced and dynamic, developing from each chorus to the next. Many songs have tag endings or similar devices that reflect how we would actually play them live. It really is like playing with a world class rhythm section.
Oddly, I discovered the app after visiting Mr, Kreisberg’s website to check out upcoming tour dates. JK, if you’re listening, we miss you in San Francisco!

Well, there are videos of JK talking about this which are associated with his account on YouTube. It would be expensive for someone to hack JK's YouTube and social media accounts, create an app that people can actually use, put up fake AI videos of Jonathan announcing this app, setting up a website, etc., to ensnare the hundreds of jazz guitarist worldwide who would be interested in this.

Anyone who is incautious enough to leave a trail across the Internet about themselves will be more easily targeted. Have a look at all the cookies and trackers sitting in your web browser monitoring every single thing you do on the Internet. Apps are even worse since you have no way of examining what tracking of you is being done. Any benefit we receive from web browsers and apps is almost incidental; the purpose of those things is to accumulate information on you for your exploitation and, in many countries, for government surveillance. India, for example, is demanding that smart phone manufacturers install a government tracking app on phones sold within that country. The United Kingdom has demanded that Apple install a back door for it to be able to hack into individual's phones to harvest data, even phones sold outside of the UK. The Trump Administration already uses social media scraping to determine what visa applications to approve or reject as well as tracking its ever-growing list of "enemies," most of whom are natural born citizens that they would like to get rid of. The most paranoid movie and book visions of centralized spying on individuals are already far exceeded, and we do it voluntarily!Last edited by Cunamara; 01-18-2026 at 09:42 PM.

I subscribed to The Feel Book (TFB) recently for a month, and decided a couple of weeks in that I’d be happy to pay less than 1 GBP per week to have access to this, so I updated my sub to renew annually. My partially used one month sub was automatically pro-rata refunded, which is nice. As an intermediate player, I find the app is pushing me in a good way on time and phrasing. I’m using the app on my iPad and have found it’s reasonably simple to use TFB in real time with an app that adds reverb to my AKG Lyra mic for acoustic playing, or with an amp sim app that takes an electric guitar input via my Apogee JamX.

I have been subscribing it for some months now. I totally agree it is next level, compared for instance to the Quartet apps which are already interesting.
But, at least for now, I have to say that I feel like it is slightly overpriced given the current library size.
If they keep adding tunes without bumping the subscription then I think it will be definitely worth every cent.
