I had not heard of this book or its author before. It popped up as a recommendation at Amazon. Does anyone here know more about it? (If so, did it benefit you, or would you recommend it to a student?)

There seems to be more information about the book on the publisher's website:

Nice Amazon promo for the book.

Looking at all the books and study materials I have on my computer I cant imagine there is something contained in this volume that
I have not reviewed in some of my collected works from..Howard Roberts Joe Diorio.Ted Greene Michael Brecker John McLaughlin Tom Quayle and more.

Over the years my playing has evolved and improved and I have incorporated as much as I can from the aforementioned study materials.

So the question is..will one more book bring new light to something I have not covered in my collection.

On this one.. I will pass.

Herring's a great alto player, but I have to admit that his jazz playing did not speak to me in a special way when I saw him live at the Phil Woods Memorial Concert in Stroudsburg, PA.
I drove out there from NY, so I was very disappointed in their choice of selecting him to 'represent' Phil Woods.
Apparently, they couldn't find anyone else, which speaks volumes on the jazz alto scene of today.
Thankfully, just as I was about to leave, Houston Person, the great tenor player came out, and played a great set with Phil's rhythm section, and the great Bill Mays on piano.
