I'm so glad I got the OK from the boss last year to get a Deluxe when my turn came up
Still haven't decided on a color, there are so many options and they are all stunning.

Nobody sprays a better sunburst. I have 1 blonde Campellone but it is almost a waste of his spray talent.

So I'm going to be part of his next round in October.
So now I have to make decissions about what model, color, wood, etc.
It's going to be a long wait now that I have a starting date and not a way down the road date!
I feel like I need to pinch myself

Congrats! I'm still 30 months out but it's all good

Once you decide between blonde and sunburst, the rest is easy!

Doesn’t matter if you get a Standard or Cameo. The excellent quality will be the same.
My personal favorite is 17x3x25x1-11/16.

I am in the next build, and it came up faster than I expected as well. But, I’m happy to go forward. I have changed my mind so many times about the finish, but finally landed on Dark Cherry Burst.

Oh, my……that is stunning! If mine comes out anywhere close to as gorgeous as yours, Vinny, I’ll be very happy. It was hard to choose because every one of Mark’s finishes are drop dead gorgeous. But, I think I made the right choice. I think these are the best pictures of the Dark Cherry Burst that I have seen. I bet it’s even more beautiful to see in-hand. Thanks for posting these, Vinny.

-
Yes a medium D. Pretty close to a modern L5 profile. All 3 of mine the neck is exactly the same.
I always tell Mark to carve my tops on the thick side. I don’t like overly bright. A couple others took my top carve advice and were pretty happy. Depends on if you like a bright or thicker tone.
Mark’s guitars are brighter and lighter then a modern L5 Wes.
Mark uses a thinner fret wire than a modern Gibson that adds a little more brightness but also gives more sustain than a Gibson.
Mark’s fretwork is the best I have ever seen. He uses a medium/medium fret wire. I think Dunlop. He may chime in with the exact wire but all I can say is it’s perfect and plays better then my L5.

I had an ‘06 L5CES that had that perfect medium D profile. It was the best neck I’ve ever had. So, that’s exactly what I want. Also, thanks for the tip on the top carve. I’m going with a Vintage Vibe CC floating p/u, so a little thicker carve might be nice, since the CC might already be on the bright side.

Ask Mark about the carve. As someone who has carved a number of plates myself I can tell you that a thicker carve lends itself to a more bright/brittle acoustic sound and a thin carve to a deeper acoustic sound. Think of it like the head of a drum. Tighten it and you get a brighter sound.

Ask Mark, but if you are getting a floater you might want to optimize the top for acoustic tone. Keep in mind that a floater normally is not going to give you an L5CES tone, it will have more air and an acoustic vibe to it, which many like, while many others prefer the built in pickup and thicker top for a thicker tone.

For frets, I believe Mark uses Dunlop 6150, so:
Dunlop 6150: .042H .102W 18% NS

I disagree with the top carve. Compare a very thin carved top on a Heritage with a humbucker and a L5.
The Heritage will be brighter with a more acoustic voice. The thick carved L5 will have a deeper, creamy, darker tone.
I prefer a more darker, richer electric tone. Everyone has there own favorite tone and what pleases their own ears.
IMO the top carve and bracing plays the biggest tone role on a archtop.
-
Thanks, Jay. I’m not going for an L5 tone with this one. I do want a nice acoustic tone. I’ll ask Mark to weigh in on the carve thickness.

It will be interesting to consult with Mark on the sound. While it will be an acoustic instrument with a floater, it will also be a thinline. I do want excellent acoustic tone and decent volume to play unplugged at home, but I’m most interested in the interaction of the acoustic tone with the CC pickup. So, there are a few different tonal factors to consider. I’m very confident Mark will balance these variables and create something that sounds amazing.

Thanks, Vinny. I haven’t been playing many gigs for the past few years and if any do come up I have my Trenier Model E with a built in HB for that purpose. This one will fill another niche for me, playing solo at home or at low volume with another guitar player or bass player, etc. I have always liked the sound of CC pickups on an archtop, and member Fred Archtop’s videos with the floating Vintage vibe floating pickup is exactly the sound I’m looking for. I’m opting for a thinline for more comfort, which has become more of a priority over the years.
