Yup. Then hopefully he will tire of it and sell it to me.

After 2009 Gibson Crimson stopped stamping the back of the headstock with the serial no. Just in the F hole. IMO much better looking.
-
Ha, I never knew that. So in essence, before I joined this forum. Well then, my ignorance is excused!

I own five Specials
I rely more on the fingerboard inlays
the abalone side markers are a very Lovely touch

If one of you guys flush with Campellone's want to part with one let me know. Should have ordered one several years ago.

A bit of patience may be required, but, like Gibson archtops built since the early 1990s, they come up on a regular basis, usually in excellent condition, at reasonable and predictable prices.

Besides. Who doesn't want a few of those guitars Vinny has stashed away?
My story, and I'm sticking to it, is I'm blaming peer pressure from the forum for excessive GAS.

No, they truly are exceptional guitars. I’d highly recommend a Deluxe, which today you may find one at $5k. I had one and it was an exceptional guitar. I sold it to sample a Benedetto AA. I only parted with it because I had 12 archtop’s at the time. Something had to go and it sold first. But in truth I didn’t want to have to sell it. It was perfect in every way.

Cedar Creek guitar cases have ruined countless guitars including a couple of mine.

Cedar Creek has supposedly corrected their dye bleeding problem. ???
Just about every Super 400 made in 2014/15 is stained green.
I have seen stained Campellone's too including my Special. Luckily I caught it early and replaced the case with a factory Gibson L5 case.
My S400 was green as a 4 leaf clover.
The green seems to be the worst but have seen CC blue stained guitars also.
I saw a 2016 S400 and it still had a CC case but with white lining so even Gibson was aware of the bad green case bleeding. Some are perfectly fine and some bleed like a stuck pig.

I’m glad to hear Mark is using TKL cases now. I requested something other than a CC case for my upcoming build.

I own five of Mark‘s guitars and I love all five of them and I always take joy in watching Mark do new guitars and speak with us here

TKL Products Corp. makes TKL, Cedar Creek and Harptone brand cases are all the same company!

Visesnutcase : Jumbo guitar case Active series Dark Gray
These cases are adjustable to fit 16" or 17" archtops by adjusting the inner perimeter strap. They are lightweight (9 lb./4.1 kg) and quite protective. I would not classify them as a full flight case like Calton or Hoffee, but they are close. They do not have TSA compliant locks, BUT they make soft zippered padded sleeves with backpack straps that the zipper can be locked with a TSA compliant padlock. The one down side is a small accessory compartment.
They do retail for $880 but I know that builders by them in quantity (e.g. > 10) at 40% discount ($528). That is what they charge for a Cedar Creek case! So they retail for more than a Hiscox or TKL but less than a Calton or Hoffee. Visesnut cases are made in Thailand and can be purchased and imported directly. I actually prefer their Active Series over their higher end offerings. For air non-traveling players, the standard latches are fine.
Given the supply chain/delivery uncertainty, quality history, excess weight and lower protection of TKL Products Corp. cases I personally would never risk a handmade, nitro finished instrument in one of them.
Food for Thought....

Yikes. A grand for a case?! Does it serve breakfast?

That Deluxe is a nice deal for someone in Europe.

If your guitars rarely or never leave the house, I can see why spending that kind of money on a case may be a little bit of vanity. I don't begrudge of course!

He is my age and I know I am thinking real hard about retirement as I am turning 68 in 2 months.
I don’t know if all this work is good or bad for Mark. We both have those aches and pains and carving and buffing is murder on your back and shoulders.
Hopefully we can squeeze another decade out of him.
His fit and finish is the best out there unless you have $150K for a Monteleone base model.
I must say I have fallen in love with both his guitars and him as a great guy.
The Campellone build experience is such a joyful ride. I am a fanboy for sure.
I wish I started the ride twenty years ago.
-
Ha! I’ve been retired for 12 years! Good on you for continuing to work.
-
Mark Campellone is so dedicated to his craft that instead of winding down to less building per batch per year so to ease into retirement a few years from now. He now has a 4 year wait and is back to building a full batch every few months. Seems like a lot of work. It is all our fault for exposing his greatness.

I am so so grateful to play these archtops. I feel like I am playing guitars made for royalty. I know I own the best and look no further. Mark really is a fair and genuine man of craft. A true artisan devoted to getting top quality archtops into the hands of players..
