    Thanks Joe,

Ya know I needed that. I was telling Lora more than month ago when I decided to move that giving up all my animals was gonna be so hard (and it is, I'm just tuning it out, like my Mom passing) that the guitar was like a light at the end of the tunnel that was keeping me going. Like the old hanging a carrot in front of the buggy horse trick was in the old days... Well that day IS HERE and man it's great. BUT I am gonna wait until Sunday morning, it's gonna warm up real fast, so by the time I have a righteous breakfast I'll try attaching the pick guard and then tuning her up and
playing her inside until it's 60 out and then play outside.

Sunday I am also showing my neighbor how to do baby back ribs and smoked baked beans with the smoker he is getting from me, a huge Cookshack SM160... (look them up). So good food, good music and some mellow playing time on Blondie. That's what I'm gonna call her, Blondie (like Clint Eastwood's character in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Blondie... (hey Blondie !!). LOL...

Later guys, Joe, you're missing out on 3 cheese ravioli in a sausage gravy (ala Lidia Bastianich)...
Yeah it's a little like Christmas at Mr. A's mansion back in the old days... (this is about 1955)

Seeing the wood inside under less glare it's obvious that Mr Wu very carefully selected some great spruce and maple for the project. Once I get my Baby Backs flying in the morning I'll shoot out on the back porch.

The guitar looks wonderful! Does he use nitro finishes? Also what pickups does he use?

I am not sure about the pickup, maybe Wilkinson. It's being replaced with a Duncan Seth Lover.

    Yes nitro

Congratulations, Big Mike! Love the photos, including the lovely family pic. Someone looks like a chip off the old block...

I cannot not attest that they are nitro, but definitely not a thick poly. I've own two and waiting on the third one and the finish is very thin and almost satin. Just like old lacquer. In the past I sent him a pickup to install on the guitar, but recently I just do my own pickup and electronics when I get the guitar here.

Exactly, I've got a Duncan Seth Lover going in this one, thought I DID just recently get a set of Ibanez Super 58 Jazz (that only went in a high end double cut solid called an AR1505). Supposedly a slightly lower wind. But I don't want to break up the set, though if I do another set in pickup Mr Wu, and I'm consideing it right away, I probably will try those, one in each guitar.

PS I put the pick guard on her this morning, it's still too cool to take it outside - I'm teaching my neighbor how to smoke baby back ribs today with the smoker (he's getting it) and have a pan of pineapple baked beans on the stove. Gotta go prep the ribs and put them and the beans in the smoker and start her up. Then it should be warm enough to shoot more photos and play her... Worth being patient and cautious with this one. I waited this long, surely a couple more hours won't kill me. ("well, I'm not sure Mikey" a voice whispers inside)/ For those that wanna know I am doing the baby backs ala Johnny Triggs - you can find videos of guys showing Johnny's method... Doggone good eating. Joe Denisco, where are you homes ??? LOL !!

    Mike,

This is the best Sunday morning because like all the other guys I am waiting to vicariously hear how the guitar feels in your hands AND how she sounds!

I am so very happy for you -- and you are exactly right, it's like a light at the end of the tunnel for you; much deserved, buddy!!

...if I get in the car now it will be 6 hours to get to the baby back ribs. I should make it for late lunch ;-)

Enjoy every minute of the day today!

Big Mike, I hope you enjoy this love affair for a long time with Blondie.

And while I hope this isn't out of place to put here rather than in a PM, I 'dedicated' if that is the right word a song I recorded last night in my 'studio' (living room) to you, Joe, and others who have suffered deep losses recently - Estate over on Showcase. I hope you don't mind. If you do, I can take that down - the dedication or this post. Just a simple vocal and nylon string track recorded on my Tascam DR-O5, playing a Yamaha classical I bought in Italy in the early Eighties.

My Mother is ninety-two years young and as she says, "Getting old is not for the faint of heart." Too bad we don't grow younger....

Talk about highs and lows, but I hope this guitar affair will help heal. It is certainly beautiful. Crazy what a man will do for a blond. And we share a bit of the joy and the pain with you, too.

I'll tell you, if the guitar ends up sounding as good as she looks, then I hope Mr. Wu can conjure up a twin sister... (Of course, my wife will kill me.)

I am deeply moved, almost to tears. I have been playing this song a lot the last two weeks. Missing the dog and cats and now Mom... It's gorgeous and a wonderful
tribute that is so considerate of you. And to anyone wondering, the ribs won't be out of the smoker for about 6 1/2 hours. Open House sounds like a good idea if ya got the patience to drag yourself way over here.

I am so relieved that you are pleased, Mike. Trust me, I believe we have all shed a few tears for you guys in this turbulent week. Because it hits home to all of us what is the pain of loss.

But life has its seasons, and perhaps God has his reasons. I hope Blondie brings you tears of joy and healing.

But, darn it, stop making me so hungry all the time...

Still too cool to play outside. Prepped the 3 slabs of baby backs and they joined the already waiting beans added 2 oz. Apple wood shards and fired that up.
Shot some pics inside in the bed, then tried outside, a sudden very brisk wind came along so ran Blondie back in.

WOW! Mike if she plays and sounds HALF as good as she looks you have a real winner!

I'm not one for ornate fret markers but those are stunning, LITERALLY! I was stunned seeing them on the git stringed.

Oh, I just took three racks of ribs, one chicken, and half a dozen sausages out of my smoker. Mmnnn.... I used some pear wood and a HOT jerk rub on everything but the sausages.

You guys are killing me. So those smokers do the trick, huh? I'm thinking about that chicken with the spice rub....mmmm.

Mike, the photos are stunning. The wood grain is beautiful and the finish as well. The tailpiece looks nice and solid as well.

Ok so I tuned her up, raised the bridge some and went out back and played "Personality" by Lloyd Price belting it out at the top f my lungs TWICE for her. I swear she was clapping along. Really felt both my folks were with me. Then played "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" and sang that to my Dad and cried a little. Played "In The Garden" and then sang George Harrison's "For You Blue" for my sister, even though we don't get along.

Had to baste and flip my ribs, stir them pineapple beans and then eat something...
Being outdoors I'm stunned by how nice it is in countless ways. Gotta get it setup, my TI GB12 flats. And the Seth Lover installed. Anyone figure out I can't type for squat on my iPad yet ?? LOL

BigMike, I sure would love to taste your cooking. I am sure your guitar playing is just as good. Would love to hear you and JD do a duo. You guys could be the new Herb & Joe show.
Are you staying in Jersey now or still moving to Chicago ? It has been a rough month for you. So glad for the little gift from heaven. Blondie is definitely a blessing from above. That guitar will always have a very special meaning to you.
We all rejoice with you my friend. Like JD, I have great respect for you.
