I have both an Epiphone Dot and an Epiphone Sheraton.

Can anyone I.D. this Ibanez Artstar? I could probably haggle my way down to 400 bucks for it based on the current price and the owner failing to specify which model it is:
-
That Ibanez looks nice! I have a 2005 Epi Emperor Regent hollow body and I don't consider it's an "amateur" guitar...
Ymmv...
-
That looks like an Ibanez as 120 from the 90's? I think they were made in korea. But I'm not 100 per cent sure on this.
-
Are they any good?
-
+ 1 on it being an AS120.
Yes, they're good, but how good and compared to what is subjective. You say you have an Epi Dot and a Sheraton? Similar level of quality to either (the Dot and the Sheraton are pretty much the same, but with different levels of ornamentation), but you might prefer the Ibanez. I have trouble seeing people who give you crap about playing an Epi all of a sudden growing brains and ears on sight of an Ibanez.
Check out this guy:
He has demos of pretty much every semi on the planet. He sounds the same on all of 'em. Why? 1) Semis are all pretty similar; 2) Once you know what sound you're looking for, you can get it out of a lot of different guitars.

It's an Ibanez AS-80 . Great guitar !

Guild Aristocrat (Korean made) can be had new for just under 1K, and used for a few hundred below that. I have the Newark Street (Korean) version as well as the American Patriarch (US) version. It is fully hollow, weighs in at about 5.5 lbs, and has no soundholes, so it resists feedback very well. In comparing my two the US version is a little warmer and more resonant acoustically as expected for 3x the price, but after the comparison I was more impressed with the Korean version than I expected to be. If you can find one in your area it's a great guitar for under 1K.

Check out the Eastman T386 and T486.

Just bought an Epiphone ES335 for 400. Nice for the price. Had to spend another 50 to get it set up. Plays as good as any at much higher prices.
Other brands to consider: Washburn H35 or Prestige Pro double cutaway, (very nice at just under a grand.). Also on a bit of a different tack but still in the semi-hollow config. take a look at the Reverend Manta Rey.

I quite like all the suggestions, but the issue would be availability. Way too many shred guitarists here.
Is it an AS 80 or AS 120? What are the differences?

That's more like a semi solid. It's just chambered. Not big enough.
Don't know if the Artstar is going anywhere, the seller hasn't responded to my message and it says that he read it 4 hours ago.

If you are patient you might be able to find a Heritage H-535 for around $1,000.
-
I would take a look at the Fret King John Etheridge signature model.

Before you buy check out Prestige guitars from Canada, not Ibanez Prestige. But the guitar company in Canada Prestige, wonderful guitars. I bought a Prestige Heritage Standard LP came with Grover tuners Seymore Duncans pickups 59 in the JB in the bridge. It is built better then my Gibson Les Paul Standard a real Gibson not a Epiphone, and Epiphones are nice guitars so Epiphone users don't get upset. I like my Epiphone MasterBilt. Anyway check them out most of their guitats are well built and under a $1000.00. The first picture is my Prestige and they make a few more. Wonderful guitars I don't work for them best purchase for guitar I have made in a long time.

That guy doing the demo with the Sharaton is an awesome guitarist. I have seen him do a lot of demo's but be aware he use's some high end pedals. Such as a Strymon delay and reverb and maybe a Diablo overdrive you have to take all that into account. I had a nice Sharaton at one time I replace the pickups with some used Gibson 57 I bought off a friend. That was years back I traded in on a Gibson SG and added a few bucks Now I play a Prestige from Canada Heritage Standard LP, a Fender American Special Telecaster, and a Epipiphone MasterBilt DR-500mce. If I was going to buy another guitar and I like to have a semi body. I would look at Prestige from Canada wonderful guitar's for under a Grand. Again check them out won't hurt.

I will probably become a social pariah for saying this, but I don't much care for GregsGuitars

Have you had a chance to hear the double cutaway model without effects?
