You may get a wider range of responses if you add information about your playing style and the sound you’re after. I’m looking forward to the Wednesday delivery(hoping I don’t have the bad luck you’ve had) of an EastmanT186. I love the look, I like Eastman necks, and I like the samples I’ve heard on YouTube. But that’s just me. It’s going to be a much different sound than the chambered custom 7-string I own (which has a single f-hole like the two shown in the earlier reply). Apples to oranges comparison, as an old expression goes. Your experience might be similar. What sound(s) do you want?

I've heard that the PRS SE's are really well set-up. They are imported to the U.S. PRS factory and the setup is checked there. In addition Sweetwater does a check of the setup before shipping so if you but from them.

If I was to buy sight unseen I would go for one of these: PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow - Gray Black | Sweetwater

Look for a used Eastman T386 or T486. They are the best bang for the buck in that price range, IMO.

Just get an Epiphone 335 Pro, if you dig 335's. Affordable, plentiful and well made and voiced. One of my favorites out of many guitars over many years.

There are so many good semi-hollows under a grand (especially if you include used guitars) that you pick one at random and be good to go. Anyway, I have a D'Angelico EX DC that I'm very happy with the going rate is $800-1000. For a bit less, I think Epiphone Sheratons are great.
