I totally agree. And people told me I was nuts for thinking this way back in the mid-to-late 70's when I had a MM 65-115 (with a JBL K-130 and casters by the way).

The $10 comment was in reference to the manufacturing part # of the pre-fab assembly that some folks are using. (Obviously not you) but many of the more cheaply made class D amps are just buying the prefab boards and their cost on them and the diff between a 45w and 100w module is very low. Obviously, there are many more things involved than just the raw BOM
I buy my modules from a supplier I trust. I tried many of the "generic" E-Bay modules from China as well as a few better known brands and didn't care for them. There are certainly many choices. It depends on the module, but if you use a normal power transformer like we do, many outboard parts have to be upgraded for more wattage. If you use a self contained (line powered) module, the cost goes up, but perhaps not as much.

    Speaking of MusicMan ... they're back! http://tonereport.com/news/music-man-amps-to-return

I think Music Man amps sounded very good for Country, Albert Lee comes to mind. They seem to have greater headroom than the Fender counterparts. But they did seem to lose some of the spongy/warmth for lack of a better term. Great to see them make a come back, hope they do well!

They were certainly more stiff and "solid state sounding" than their tubed Fender predecessors. I love Italian food. Italian amps "eh", not so much

lol....hardly a "guitar amp". As I recall, he tried to make tube/hybrid guitar amps and they disappeared faster than a fart in a hurricane.

What have you done! We were having a perfectly civil and gentlemanly conversation on the other thread! This part of the playground is dangerous! They'll punch us in the face and take our lunch money!

Wow, so u guys are bashing the Music mans ! I think they do have a unique voice and some of them sound greate to me. They have their part of history. The design are a bit vierd ofcourse but hey , half of the guys in this forum are trying 500W digital bas amps for their guitars :-) Now , to buy a $ 4 K guitar and the next day look for the cheapest possible high power amp is strange to me ! Why someone appriciates a fine guitar and decides to overlook what a high end amp does with it is ofcourse anyones choice. , whatever works for u i guess .....

I'm not...one of my first guitar instructors played an old Dano and a Musicman amp (sounded great). Also, one of my favorite blues artists does as well (Chris Cain). Like others, I have both a tube amp and a solid state amp.

That way, you can run the amp with either the existing 2x12" configuration, the 15" cab, or both? HA! I didn't realize that I miss spelled Fender when I posted . . and I also didn't even pick up on you poking fun at me. I guess I've got to be on top of proofing my posts a little better.

Hey Andy! Nice to see you posting here once in a while. Glad you added your expertise to the conversation. By the way, the Pro Reverb is still sounding great, thanks in large part to your black face upgrades
that you did for me a few years back.

So you love Italian foods? If you haven't already done so . . ya gotta get to Lu Nello in Cedar Grove. Not too far from Clifton and definitely worth the short ride.

All of them? I thought that some amps from DV Mark or Brunetti are quite remarkable.

One of our members over at the Euro Guitar Forum keeps us abreast of his adventures in resuscitating and modifying old European amps. He moves them to the rock side but still, fascinating stuff.

Here, if anyone is interested in old European amps (mostly German, but some other stuff in there as well):

    Italian amps?
I guess a nice old Geloso 1040 represents a great platform for mods.
