So, there was a post in the Buy/Sell Forum about an Aaron Cowles 18" carved archtop and someone posted about a couple of guitars that were listed as Tal Farlow prototypes made by Aaron Cowles. I ended up purchasing one of them and it arrived yesterday.
Some brief notes about the whole thing:
* Pickup- is not working unless I have a finger physically touching the pickup, but that is being resolved and the seller has been super responsive in addressing.
* Pickup ID- I'm wondering what kind of pickup this is as its a full size floating humbucker. I get the feeling that it may be one of the pickups that Gibson used to use on
the Howard Roberts guitars, but thats just a guess until I take it off and see if I can find anything ID'ing it.
* Condition- initially appears to be in very good condition with some finish checking that is hard to see , but that was disclosed in the listing The Marketplace for Musicians | Reverb.com
* Build- from what I can see, hear and from description, this is a laminate like the real Tal's. Also, body is 3" as well.
* Future Plans- I'm going to bring it MArc at Guitars n Jazz for setup, etc. I pictured the guitar next to my Matt Cushman and while its not an apples to apples comparison, I probably will only keep one of them depending on plugged in sound, playability, etc. Only room for one blonde in this household!
* Finish- I really like the blonde finish and it looks like the color tone of more current blonde Gibson archtops which is lighter than my Cushman. They are both very nice.
More to come as things progress and I get some more details after my conversation with seller......

That seems very cool. Interesting choice of bronze strings with a nickel bridge! Not getting much acoustic voice with that setup I bet. If it were mine I’d look for a rosewood saddle and put some nickel strings on it.
