And I can tell you 100% it is working.

[QUOTE=kris;1398804]Did you show it to your new teacher?[/QUOTEShow him what? Music I made 10 years ago? No. I gave him an example of something from a few months back...and he then asked me to do a jazz blues in all keys.

So you can play a blues in tune/w the correct notes right now?

Dude, why you trying to mind bend everything? This is this guys approach to giving lessons to anyone, as a starting point. Not just this exercise, but I have to learn the chord changes and the melody to Autumn Leaves, Girl from Empenada, and one other. Stop trying to dig into all these theoretical, even if your point of view may have validity. Let me just move forward in peace, as I have been. I am on a good track right now, andI appreciate myself for it. I will know what this guy is about and if he is the right teacher for me as I move I to that stage. Obviously it is more than money to him, because he understands that this would take me months, not weeks before I can start my first paid session with him. He told me that he understands and for me to take my time.
    Peace.

kris committed some dumbassery and refused to correct it. Then everyone else followed suit by being too inept to manually correct the quote. Or just not quote lol.

I dunno, man. I kinda like The Girl From Empanada. Could be a Lyle Lovett tune, or Tom Waits.

BTW, what is the difference between my guitar and this $2000 Excel EXL? Nothing.....in fact once I switch out the electronics and pickup, I am sure mine will be just as good, if not better. You don't need to spend all that loot....it is a name brand scam, I tell you! It is so people who can't play (at all) like Kevin O'Leary can brag about how much money he spent on his guitars. lol

At one point Samick was making a bunch of guitars for other brands and slapping the name on it. I'm fine with having the lesser known name on the headstock and personally I think Samick guitars are just as pretty.

What’s the third song? I’m surprised Girl From Ipanema is on your starter list. It’s just unusual, I don’t think the song is particularly challenging. It’s a great one to learn in F and Db. 2 out of 2 singers I’ve played it with liked it in Db.

I have a Samick-made (technically, SPG-made) D’Angelico, and I used to have a Samick branded guitar. The two were made in the same factory, with the same tooling, by the same workforce. The Samick was a good guitar, but no question the D’A is a better guitar. Better fit and finish, better wood, better parts, better playing and sounding.

Samick and other Asian suppliers to other brands all build to a price/quality point. You really can’t say two brands are the same because they’re made in the same factory. You have to compare specific models.
In many cases the more expensive non-Samick really is the better guitar.

I finally submitted my 12 keys/jazz blues to my teacher today. Took me 33 days to do my studying and record all of this.

Overall he was very impressed with my strong sense of rhythm, and my musical ideas, and feel.
Good ground work, but he sees all the areas needing refinement. He noticed that lot of my playing has a lot of dissonance, and at times goes far away from the key center, before returning. This happens because at points, on the midst of playing I get lost somewhere and I know it, and I am trying to finesse my way back to the music. This is expected for a guy who has been self taught up to this point.
He sees a shining light ahead for me, and is excited to help me refine my craft, and take things to the next level. He is willing to put time into me because he believes me. So cool.
Here are all the examples I provided in 12 keys: some of them turned out not so good.
