I don't think many of them work with laminates.

Not to mention that young players need more versatile guitars, just as I did when I was young.

Guitarists just starting their careers have to be able to play in different styles for the most part. And maybe work their way into a jazz career, if that is their goal and they are good enough, and lucky enough.

At this point, I’d be happy to see Gibson release something other than a new Les Paul model.

Is Gibson actually at NAMM this year? I believe they sat out a few.

A new and kind of different hollowbody from Collings.

Eastman launches the D’Ambrosio series of solidbodies, some of which might be of interest to jazzers (such as the Tele clone with CC pickup). Handmade in California, not China. I’m curious to see how much extra quality those offer in exchange for the extra money.

I was just watching a NAMM video from “TheGuitarGeek” and the new Ibanez Pat Metheny with the CC pickup was hanging behind him. No more info yet.

Oooh, yeah that's nice...I need another guitar like a hole in the head, but it'd be cool if they offer these at "made in Japan" and "other" pricepoints...but that might be difficult with such a niche guitar.

These Pat Metheny's are super cool! I know he has been playing a modified custom with CCs for a while now.

This might get me to look at an Ibanez.

That doesn’t tell me much. Pickups called Charlie Christian pickups by different manufacturers have wildly differing specs.

Hopefully it’s a massive single coil and they make the guitar $1,500. I’d be all over it

    You could ask the manufacturer.

I've been able to play one of the Sire Tele's and the 335 with p-90's and both blew me away how good both felt and sounded for what they charge. These guitar's were definitely gig worthy. That L5 does look very interesting.

There are certainly worthy lam-top guitars out there to choose from and an abundance of used 175 models of every era - many absolutely affordable, playable and good sounding workhorses.

I don't know what's wrong with the Collings company, but I've been playing my two beloved guitars for many years and I've never had such quality instruments in my life - I've been a professional jazz musician for 30 years – including quite a few good instruments like vintage Gibson, Heritage, Ibanez, etc...
