Thanks Phil, I appreciate it. A few reasons. The people who play it and enjoy it I generally find a little more thoughtful and classy compared to what you find at a usual guitar forum where rock guys are pretty much the norm. I am more of a jazz fan than a rock fan. And jazz and blues are intertwined very closely so there is more worthwhile to learn here than what I have found at some of the other forums. Besides, the best guitars all have F-holes, lol.

Your absolute statement is what got us talking to begin with:

Maybe you would be better served in the future not reading them. You keep being antagonistic towards me...over a speaker discussion. Don't worry, tomorrow none of my absolutes will matter again. So please let it go.

I've used JBL K-130 speakers for years - no icepickiness there, but, then again, they are 15"ers.
I also use a well-broken-in set of Weber Cali 10" ceramic speakers with the "Large H" screen cloth dust caps. I guess these are their version of the E-110. According to Weber, these are "good for warmer yet articulate cleans, but also moderate overdrive," without the "piercing highs" associated with the aluminum dust caps. I think they are right.Last edited by Hammertone; 07-03-2023 at 10:24 PM.

You're absolutely right

Being entangled in a disagreement is a bit of a trap (seen many people go that route w him), since he’s customized the rules and manners of the argument. So yeah my two cents is just engage w him as some guy you overhear at a bar. Frankly if a guy can’t blow over a tune whose form requires something other than play a single minor pentatonic I dunno what he’s doing here with the grown ups. But it’s all good; like I said we’re just dudes at a bar. Mostly acquaintances at best and the occasional newcomer.

Good grief it must be the Wild West out there….

I don't use the block/ignore feature because there's some content that gets lost in their interaction w other members but I'm just not going to engage w ignorant people anymore if I can help it.

Another thing to possibly think about is that, things would be become somewhat ossified and perhaps less useful, if the forum did not welcome people. Certainly making a definitive statement is going to be controversial, however we all have that tendency at times.
One thing, I am sure of, is that name calling is never cool. I under that it can be used to establish in group, out group dynamics. Those dynamics tend to be self defeating, if one is interested in learning or asking oneself difficult questions. Of course again, it a typical response. One that everyone has engaged in.
However, I believe that it is also self damaging action. I do not have a doctorate in psy so? IDK just my experience… I guess, I could make an argument from analogy so…

I put a set of Jensen Tornado speakers in my Quilter Aviator 2x10" and am very happy with how they sound. IMO a big improvement over the stock Celestion G10 Vintage speakers. I'm very happy with the clean and overdriven sounds.
I too love the sound of JBLs - I have a cab with a JBL D-130. Totally different sounding speaker to the Jensens - not particularly versatile - big "hi-fi" cleans are its speciality - but matched with the right amp, it would be hard to find a superior speaker.
-
For a while I bought every JBL I could find locally for sane prices. I picked up a really clean D-130 for $75. I built a new cab outta mahogany and ebony with a pine baffle for a Gibson Maestro Reverb Echo Deluxe that didn't have one and had a Weber Michigan 15 in there, which has been a really good speaker. It is a very dark sounding amp and it sounded really good with the Weber but I thought the JBL would give it a little extra brightness. For whatever reason it just didn't work, which I thought was strange. I wound up pulling it and selling it for a few extra bucks to a friend of my son as that is the only 15" amp I own.

There are times when I am tempted to try the Eminence Travis Toy Neo series for the big power handling 300w and big clean steel sound it is supposed to be geared for. Someone on the forum, I can't remember who, gave me a low down on a bunch of neo's that kind of put me off to trying them. I think if I relocate maybe downsize, sell a Twin, and put K120's in the '69. I have beaten the one I have and it's the only one I couldn't blow. I would rank it right there with the rest of the JBL line. Or maybe I will keep it and put some E120's in there. Monsters. They want crazy money for JBL's now, but IMO they are worth it.
Freeman-Truell outta DFW does good recone work on JBL's for a fair rate, the shipping is what really adds to the cost. I believe they are authorized JBL. I was going to Mustang locally in Manor but he died, unfortunately, and was a one man show. RIP Jeff.

The Travis is interesting, but I think the Eminence actual take on a JBL was the Commonwealth (except it's ceramic, not alnico, like older JBLs). I don't think they do them anymore, but they handle 225w, perfect for a "jazz amp" - it should be much better than the traditional Eminence Beta bass speaker these amps use. Would love to try one.

I just got a Raezers Edge Stealth 12 with a Jensen Jet Tornado. Could not be happier. With the Luna 200R amplifier it does a fantastic job for archtop jazz . It also does hard rock with pedals too.
I have a pair of them in a 68’ pro reverb , rewired to a brown vibroverb . Does everything I could ever want on a rock rig.
I have a single 12” jensen jet tornado in a custom built tweed style combo based on the 5e5 fender pro. Kills for Blues and everything else.
