I just got a call to sub in a 19 pc playing in a pretty big room. Probably seats 150.

    No PA available.

    What amp to bring?

My first thought is to consider the piano. I've subbed before and I know that there is a grand piano which will be played open and without amplification.

So, I need to play not-quite-as-loud as that piano.

My guess is that the Little Jazz will be enough -- and I can put it on the lip of the stage, which will get it about head height of the musicians, sitting in chairs, in the front of the room -- but not on the stage itself.

My thought is that a small amp at head height has the effective volume of a larger amp on the floor. I don't miss the bass.

Last time I did it was a few years ago (Covid), before I had the LJ. At that time I was gigging with a Roland JC55. I still have it. Parking is safe, so I'll bring it and leave it in the car until somebody complains that the guitar isn't loud enough. Hey, it could happen <g>. Another reason: if the pianist doesn't show up, I'll have to be louder.

EDIT: Played it last night. No piano. Charts were pretty easy. Big room with mostly hard surfaces. Echoey.

I put the LJ on a chair (trombones set up on the stage and the other horns fanned out on the main floor from there with the rhythm section opposite the bones -- so the lip of the stage was out) and the JC55 on the floor. One on either side of me. I had the LJ louder, doing most of the work. Plenty loud enough with the two amps, and sounded great. Probably the LJ could have done it by itself. I'll test that next week and, hopefully, be able to leave the bigger amp at home after that.

Bassist had an acoustic bass thru a tube amp with a 15. I had to wear earplugs because of the horns. I don't know if it was my bad hearing, his equipment, or the room, but the bass was mostly some dull thudding. Hard to tell one note from another. I like big band, but I also like playing quietly. Pick one.
