I haven't done a NGD post before but this is a really interesting guitar! I had ordered a B120 from Roger last year and it was completed earlier this year but because I live out of the US it has been sitting safely at a friend's house in CA until recently. Finally back to the US I am just now getting acquainted with her. What a great guitar! Lots of mojo and such a great acoustic sound I forget it's an all laminate instrument!

The first video is with the round wound D'Addario strings it arrived with. The second video has TI flat wound 12s.

I prefer the acoustic sound with the round wounds but she's much easier to get around on with the TI flats.

Congrats Doug! May she inspire your playing for many years to come. If that guitar felt neglected the last few months, she sure won't feel neglected moving forward.

Doug- a big congrats ! Your playing is fantastic - and you seem quite comfortable on the new guitar. Roger Borys B120 is highly regarded by World renowned jazz pros, and I'm sure you are realizing why......

Wishing you many years of enjoyment.

Amen! As for which strings sound “better”, I learned long ago that most such differences are simply differences - neither is better or worse. I love ‘em both, although I’d go with the flats (as I do on my guitars) for general playing. I might favor the RW a tiny bit for chunky comping in a big band, but not enough to change strings unless I get called by Basie

Great playing and a great guitar Doug. I happen to like the sound of the RW but like you the flats give it a bit of an easier go on the fingerboard at times.

WooHoo!! I'm happy for you man! It's a long wait even without the added months in your situation. It sounds fantastic in your hands. I hope you build a long and fruitful relationship! I look forward to hearing you plugged in.

And yeah...you play great! (but I already knew that)

Great playing and a nice guitar. FWIW I liked the tone with the flatwounds slightly more.

Congratulations on a great guitar and great playing!

I have had my Borys B-160 (Wyble model) for about a year and enjoy it immensely. The 160 looks na sounds about the same , the main difference being a 25" scale. It plays like a dream, so much so that I had Mark Campellone pretty much match the specs on my custom order. It has a pretty full neck but not baseball-batty, if that makes sense. Just the way I like it.

I wasn't 100% sold on the pickup at first, but it's growing on me, especially with the tone and volume rolled off a touch. Will be curious to see your reaction. I find that when I'm playing with others I want that top end back to get through the mix.

BTW D'Addario half- wounds on mine, .012's, they provide a bit more of that round wound sound than flats. Enjoy!

    Congratulations & great playing BTW!
I had Mr. Stephen Holst pretty much copy a B-120, but how can you improve on the real thing?
I love the electric tone this gentleman gets with his B-120:

You're absolutely right, both sounds are great. Neither is better or worse, just different. Thanks for watching!

That's one beautiful guitar! I will keep experimenting with strings. Half-rounds sound like a good idea I will have to give them a shot. Thanks for the tip!

Chris gets a great sound out of his. I consulted him too before I ordered mine. Chris makes any axe sound great though to be fair haha

Ok one last demo now that it's gotten setup how I like it very low, zero buzz and it didn't lose any acoustic quality, which is unbelievable to me. Just loving this axe! I have yet to try it out live on a gig but that will come soon!

You may not have done a "NGD" post before, but posting a video of you actually playing the instrument is certainly the way to go, IMO.

I'm not familiar with Borys guitars, and I'm sure they're not inexpensive, but the main thing is you have a beautifully crafted instrument which appears to inspire you, so congrats and nice, spirited playing!

PS Good luck experimenting with the half-rounds. 80% you'll go back to the Thomastiks
