That's an expensive piece of what will almost certainly become wall decoration.....

I don't think I have ever heard the guy play the guitar at least intentionally. It is certainly overpriced and a wall decoration is just crazy. Call me sane but this to me it is actually sort of an ugly 175. The white is just not fitting the guitar and I am sure it would throw my playing off even. Celebrity guitars are on my list of things to avoid and completely against my standards on guitars. I don't might a celebrity guitar that is an icon that the player used for many years and was their main guitar. In that case the guitar was the person tools for working and if that person was a great one in the music I can say ok. So to me those would be the obvious and we know them on the forum.

So this guitar to me is worth about maybe $4k right? Someone is gonna pay more and that is allowed in the free market.

    Par for the course, IME.

I do find the white finish to be quite fetching. White works best under the lights, and doesn't display every stray fingerprint like black does. Per THGTTG, I always kept my towel handy, and by golly, I used it!

If I wasn't a little short this week I might be willing to open negotiations at a few Large less. Like, say minus $47,000.00 USD.

No, seriously, nice guitar no matter how you punctuate it. A trifle rich for my blood and bank account.

He is the glue that held Guns and Roses together .. You know .. Guns and Roses .. One of the biggest bands ever

Their signature sound was hugely influenced by him and their commercial success plummeted after he left the band in 1991

Here he is on the left playing the es175 this thread is about in a couple of live shot form before they became stadium rock big. basically It's not like that guitar is undocumented .. I basically just googled "guns and roses live 198" to get these pictures (and accepted the google suggestion of 1987 once I typed 198)

Biggest ever is not what I am saying

One of the biggest ever .. Definitely. Slash is still poster boy number 1 for Gibson, isn't he?

In sales they are definitely in the top 30 of all time. I would call that pretty big.

Guys, not so sensitive. This is a jazz forum. Guns and roses is considered at its best amusing while drinking lots of beer in my book.
Now for being a big act. I didn't say they didn't have any succes, but take a look at the next link. They are somewhere in that list, but 'one of the biggest bands ever'?

Elton John seems to be one of the biggest acts ever. He made it to the top ten.

Well ... At least they're bigger than Miles Davis, aren't they?

I will not accept the premise that artistry is measured by how many boomers you can make rock hard on a niche forum. It's about touching people emotionally ... But hey ... If you want to circle jerk with the likes of Marineiro then be my guest

Miles Davis is MUCH bigger, and will be copied, talked about, learned from and worshipped for decades.
    G 'n R? Not so much.

Also keep in mind guns n roses did not release a lot of albums. Total sold is about 120 million depending on the source. I think they did good for being 5 homeless junks, living together in a garagebox

Anyway, they certainly are one of the biggest bands ever.
According to this link:CSPC: The best selling artists of all-time as of 2020 - ChartMasters
of best all-time selling artists they are nr 35. That includes all artists, not just bands.

Considering the majority of their successful singles came out in a four year span from mid-1988 to mid-1992, the cumulative sales reached by the band are outstanding. In terms of strict album sales, their 1987 classic Appetite For Destruction is one of the 22 albums in the 27-33 million units range worldwide, good enough for a spot just outside the all-time Top 10 best selling albums. Their career total album sales challenge the biggest US groups ever like Aerosmith, the Beach Boys and Bon Jovi, just under the two highest rollers the Eagles and Metallica. An incredible feat given they released far fewer albums than most of the aforementioned.

I’ll never understand musicians trashing other musicians accomplishments...

their biggest hits are over 30 years old so technically they are already being talked about, copied, and worshipped for decades.

Yeah .. That is my beef too .. Tho I get very vocal when faced with those attitudes ...

But I had my fun and as my last comment I'll just point out that G'N'R are still able to do this in 2019

Both Santa and the tooth fairy are also much bigger than G 'n' R. Miles changed the course of our music singlehandedly 5 times. G 'n' R? Nothing new or unique, at all. just another junky rock band who got lucky.

    This is a jazz site. G 'n' R don't even belong here.

jeez man, relax. You’re behaving as if someone just insulted the prophet.
It’s just music. Another artist outsold the one you prefer. Get over it.
