a GOOD preamp for plugging into PA

The deluxe reverb of amplifire with the right IR, its better than the Joyo American Sound (I have both). I use it with a Klon clone as clean boost (ehx soulfood) and love the results.

The amplifirebox should be killer for what you are looking for, you get for 300usd several amp emulations, boost, compressor, eq, delay, reverb, IR loader, XLR output in a really compact unit. As a bonus, you can use it also for loading acoustic guitar impulse responses.

Does the amplifire have a clean boost?

Atm I am thinking of going for a fly rig just for simplicity of use, compactness and price.

I want to build a super light rig, maybe a Toob speaker and either a ultra light head or more likely a preamp and power lamp.

The aim is drive as little as possible this year.... insurance....

which amplifire are you talking about? If you're talking about the $299 one, no it does not but it depends on what you actually mean by clean boost. The box itself can boost your signal above unity gain and also has the ability to drive it's virtual preamp hard in order to simulate the sound of an overdriven preamp.

Frankly, i'm not convinced about that toob speaker. I think you will end up sacrificing a lot. IMO, better to get a $249, 1000W, 23lb Alto TS210A if you're going to drive it with a modeler.

Yes, it has a clean boost, I use a Soulfood with gain on 0 instead because I like how it colors my sound, but the clean boost of AF is perfectly useful.

Amplifirebox has clean boost in the overdrive block, the same as Amplifire 3,6,12.

A simple sample:

My preset:
Dropbox - Deluxe Clean.pre

I used that preset plus a EHX soulfood as clean boost (gain=0), tone at 10-11hs, volume between 3 and 5hs. Recorded direct to garage band iOS with a Roland ua22 interface.

Telecaster neck pickup with duncan vintage stacks.

No yet, I need to take some time to record one, this was a simple backing track that I recorded to practice scales.

You can try it by yourself with the preset.

i don't have one. I'm currently using fractal ax8, considering getting one as a 2nd/backup modeler.
