Thanks for the recommendation. I really hope to check out a J. Rockett Blue Note. I don’t want extreme distortion, and that pedal seems to be the range & sound I am after. Several YouTube clips really impressed me.

I’m also going to experiment with my Fender Blues Jr. that has been gathering dust for years. And get it back to spec tubes. In the past I never needed any edge or distortion in the past so had put in different pre-amp tubes but never liked the result. Maybe the M75 single coils + Blue Note into Blues Jr. will be ok.

This is how a RAT, trough a quite complex signal chain, sounds with a Poly. It's possible to get a good archtop plus od plus polytone sound, but it's not easy...

Scofield used (uses?) the Rockett, hard to have a better endorsement!

It was so bad I had to turn off the OCD. I am starting to dislike the M75 but maybe the amp is part of the problem too. Clearly this is going to take some time. First thing to make some height adjustments to the pickups. It is tough to turn up volume at home with family around so will be hard to test.

You can´t expect the tone you set at home (and certainly not on headphones) to be the right tone with a band. You have to adjust your tone in context with the band.
Another thing: I have no personal experience with drive pedals in front of a Polytone amp, but I would not be surprised if that is not the best match.

Hi joyo American sound users ,

Does it work ok in front of a clean amp ?

(I've heard it works best into a full range is type system)

That Blue Note pedal is in the low gain drive category. I had one long ago. Have a feeling it would work much better with your Polytone than the OCD. Just a feeling though, not having tried it with a SS amp. A couple other likely candidates I've owned:

    - Xotic RC Boost
    - Menatone Blue Collar
    - Clark Gainster
    - Bad Bob

The RC has good EQ control. Similar to the TIM/Timmy clean boosts in that way. (I used the RC boost until finding TIM pedals.) The others have fewer knobs ... the Bad Bob only one. They worked well for me with tube amps. The Gainster dropped some bass. The Blue Collar was excellent, one I should not have sold. The Bad Bob is an excellent clean boost, though it has no EQ options. No idea how these would work with solid states.

The TC MojoMojo I have tried with my polytone. It's a good match.

The RC is great for cleans or pushing al already dirty amp, but not for overdriving a clean amp. IMO.

J Rockett Blue Note pedal arrived today and so far I’m very happy. Only spent an hour testing but found I really like it with the Guild M75 (single coils) into the Fender Blues Jr. The Blue Note pedal is very adjustable, very gradual & even as I adjust gain, not too much treble or brightness with tone control. And the max gain setting is more than I need. So far so good. Like it better than the Fulltone OCD, for my taste anyhow.
With the Blues Jr. amp I just used the onboard spring reverb (ditched the Zoom G3). And viola, simple sounded the best today! I have still have low gain tubes in the Blues Jr-12AY7’s instead of 12AX7’s which are stock. But...will experiment with that another day. On one hand I can really tone down the gain when I need to. I am pleasantly surprised. Thanks again for all the great posts and ideas.
