Gibson ES-175 - First string slips out of the nut

That's a fine looking instrument you have there. A good ES-175 is a wonderful thing. Congratulations, and play it in good health!

After a day with it, the only surprise is although there is a strap button on the bottom there is no other one for the other end of the strap. I looked at the pics again on reverb and see none there either. I'm no strap expert as I always play sitting but at times it's nice to keep the box from sliding off your lap. Sure, I can do the strap under the leg thing but did Gibson expect we'd use some bailing twine above the nut ala Woodie Guthrie?

Easy enough to put a button on I imagine but if that would be a big no no please let me know. My bro in law is a fine woodworker so I plan on having him make a slightly larger coffin for me so this will fit in with me when the time comes anyway.

ES-175's have never come with a strap button. It is a mod that happens often. You can do the headstock thing like Wes Montgomery or use a classical foot stool or install a strap button. If you want to create some controversy, ask where the strap button should go. We all have our preference and all are correct!
