If a retail-branded cola tastes good, that's because it's provided by Cott Corporation and is mostly RC Cola (like President's Choice, or Wegman's W-Pop, and so forth). I've been out of beverage marketing for a few years, so if another cola has achieved recognition due to its taste, I'm unaware of it.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I'm assuming that it's sweetened with cane sugar, always a good thing.

They both sound equally good but a bit different. I predict that the Gibson will be in your hands again before to long. It's just a sound that has so many great players attached to it, it stays in your head!

Quality control on the 77 blows away anything gibson has been doing since the early '60s and the neck on the hawk feels amazing. Just the right thickness...

They are staying in Memphis, according to this article.
That pretty much reiterates the Gibson press releases. (Frankly most non-national business reporting does the same--hardly any original news out there.) Until they actually sign the paperwork to sell the building and break ground on a new one, it will remain a tentative plan rather than a done deal.

Rather than build a new building, I don't see why they can't just bring someone in to develop the remaining space in their current building? Maybe they tried and failed? (I haven't seen the site, so there may be issues of which I am not aware.)

I mean, I'm just sayin', when I sold my big house in the woods with 5 acres and moved in town to a small 2-story on about 0.2 acres, it wasn't because I was so thrilled with downsizing. It was because I knew my impending divorce was going to clean out my clock financially.

But, as with my ex-wife, I wish Gibson the best...

I suspect they are trying to get out of downtown Memphis and the area's higher property values that make for higher taxes. Tennessee has no income tax, but they nail you on property taxes.

if they can cash in on their downtown property and move to a cheaper location it could be a win win when it comes to raising cash and cutting costs.

There may also be a crime issue that's not being spoken about. The area is safe during the day, but can be risky after the tourists go back to their hotels and a rougher crowd moves in on Beale street between 10Pm and midnight. This could impact their employees if they are operating at night and have other increased security costs.

I still say it makes no sense to be completely down just to move to a cheaper location. Other companies would keep the one factory open until they transfer production then shutter the old plant. Nothing ever goes as planned to delays don't hurt as much.

One of my last jobs in the computer world was working on moving Nissan's data center from California to Tennessee when they moved their headquarters. Both the old and new HQ were open as things were being transferred. So very little downtime for the little bit of equipment that had to be forklifted from California to Tennessee. Also California lost Nissan because Tennessee offers big companies very attractive tax deal to move there or stay. I'm sure they would offer Gibson something to keep old factory open during the move, it they actually plan to move. My gut still feels like Gibson is downsizing.

Yesterday 11/06/17 episode of GuitarWank podcast had Richard McDonald CPO of Fender on. I found it really interesting what he was saying about his history and his history with Fender. I think one thing he said maybe more than once that when Fender has had rough times they look at their management people, and they make sure they are all people with guitar backgrounds who understand the music culture. I thought of the many threads on Gibson the last few years here and that is a common complaint the people in charge at Gibson in recent years don't understand music and the music culture. It's a good interview if you get a chance to check it out.

"California lost Nissan" like Michigan lost Gibson to Tennessee. California and Michigan are Union states. Gibson didn't want to pay union wages to its employees. I'd never buy a Toyota or Nissan made in Tennessee. Once a union man, always a union man...for some of us.

It's trendy to blame unions for everything bad, but they were formed out of necessity, and have done much good. Unions are responsible for the 5-day workweek, vacations, pensions, and much else. I'm no longer a union member, having retired, but I still support them, and always buy union-made goods when possible. The car I drive was union-made, and a great car at a fair price. Union bashing is done either out of ignorance or spite, or both.

Reagan began that "trend", coming into office and firing nearly 12,000 air traffic controllers. It wasn't long after that USA jobs went overseas in droves. That administration declared war on the american worker, and they've never recovered. There's been no actual growth in wages for "working" folk. What's amazing is the "trickle down economics" is still being floated as positive.

    But "trickle-up" works just fine.

Crazy California and all their laws to protect working people. That’s why Tennessee has the World’s sixth largest economy and California is a small state with real poverty and a stagnant economy... wait, what? Huh...
