Matt, i'm not sure if i understand you right ....... I have only one experience with an archtop that i bought brand new in 2003. It is still in original condition, except for some fret leveling job which had to be done due to playing it a lot later on. It was an L5 on order, the label said October, and i played it for the first time in late November or early December. While sounding hard and being not really responsive to my touch for the first three years it gradually developed and "softened" to a sensitive instrument which feels totally different now than it did then. During the first three years i played it irregularly just a few times per week, but for a some nights i had it placed in front of a speaker which kept on playing music, facing the top of the guitar, thus vibrating it constantly......... are you saying that you think this "maturing process" would have happened anyway, without me nursing the guitar?

HMFS! That is a drop-dead gorgeous instrument - Enjoy creating every sound that emanates from the fibers of this new creation!

there you go. take it down to the pub or the shore and hammer out some dylan covers. the guitar will pay for itself in no time

though i expect that the guitar will improve with time, it would be interesting to hear that journey, maybe pop in at regular intervals to listen to it evolve.

Ha, if I played Dylan covers it would take several millennia before the guitar paid for itself.

Camillus - thanks. I'm looking forward to how you get on with yours.
-
"A playable work of art", congrats Rob!
-
Thanks. Still awaiting its arrival...
-
Very beautiful! Congratulations!
Man, Elferink’s atelier is only a 20 minute drive away for me. Gotta go there more often.....
-
You could even see my guitar before I do

Don't scratch it, though!
-
I’ll take off my heavy metal jacket with the spikes and chains when I try it out!

Just to finalise this thread, the first video can be found in this post: At Last! NGD: Elferink Excalibur 18" acoustic archtop

Rob - good luck with that monster. It's a work of art!
-
It's love...
-
Last word on it Rob, just this morning
i thought that if the Elferlink was
mine I would place it on a chair and
just drink it in and gaze upon it.
An amazing coincidence that you have
actually done just that .
-
Cheers, Alan. Although I love the look of it, I would have had no qualms about handing it back if it didn't sound good. It's going nowhere.

Looks like a classic to me. A vintage guitar on day 1.

That is one happy Teddy bear! Love the photo shots of that beautiful sunburst!
-
That's Charlie. My fiercest critic. But he's smitten with the Big Elf.
Yes, that's one gorgeous tobacco burst!
-
Why does that somehow make sense to me??
