I didn't actually get a battery in there, although that would be great. The piano pedal solved the problem of the battery for me because that piano pedal cord is quite long so I can plug in the Freeze and leave it by the amp and put the piano pedal at my feet, leaving the Freeze near a power outlet.

Is this by chance what you used?

Quality of life is huge with the sustain pedal - I really think it should come that way. I just used a jack I had laying around from an old bass I had taken apart. Any jack will work as long as it is 1/4" female.

My Freeze (with silence switch mod) is permanently on my pedal board. Love it! I come by without a sustain pedal, but it sounds interesting. (But would mean more stuff to lug around....)

I was considering the silent switch mod but opted for the sustain pedal because there are some very thin ones out there and it meant not having to lift my foot very high to activate it. I tend to use it a lot in some situations so the less movement the better. I saw someone mod both a silent switch and drilled a jack on the side of the box to plug in a sustain pedal and that looked cool but the jack mod was just so quick and easy that I opted for that and I knew I would use the sustain pedal all of the time anyway. It is something else to remember to take along but it is small and light so I haven't had issues. I just wish the Freeze could run off of batteries.

It took me longer to gather the parts (and recall the site of my grandfather soldering-my first little project) than to perform the mod. The result is so much better and a lot of fun. I heartily recommend this change. I'll play with it for a spell while I read reviews of the Plus pedal...

I’m reviving this old thread to post a photos of my EHX Freeze mod. I replaced the click switch with a silent one and installed a Switchcraft jack to allow the option of an outboard pedal. I masked off the electronics to catch the filings while drilling and used several bits of increasing sizes to help keep the hole centered. The white wire goes to the grounded sleeve side of the jack, and the red to the tip.
The sustain pedal shown here dwarfs the stompbox, but it has a nice feel that should feel familiar if you’ve ever played piano. Of course any momentary pedal that switches on when depressed would do the job. This pedal has a switch on the bottom to select on or off when depressed. When I don't want to lug the outboard switch along, the onboard switch still works fine.
Edit — Approximate cost for this mod:
$4 SPST momentary switch
$4 Switchcraft mono jack
$20 Alesis sustain pedal
I used a beefy 9 amp hand drill so I could keep the RPM low for control. It all took about 30 minutes once I had everything in the workbench (actually my kitchen counter!).
Now I can use the Freeze barefoot!

Oh wow, I think I know what’s the next mod for my freeze pedal!!

At my lesson my teacher had one of these and real nice it is a commercial version of your mod.

I kinda wish the Freeze had a treble control for the wet voice. The PlusPedal allows the wet voice to be split, so one could run the wet through an EQ for tone, but that adds to the stompbox mess and cost.

I'm thinking about buying one for practicing and I'd like to make a wise choice.
The second one sounds more advanced and refined but I'd like to know about real experiences with them.
I saw on line a video of Rosenwinkel testing it, but it wasn't very useful.
Thanks!

I use an EHX SuperEgo, which is similar to the freeze but has a send-return loop through which I process the frozen signal with subtle modulation, EQ, and reverb. This produces a far more interesting and less digital sound than just the freeze.
The Plus looks a bit overpriced given that its functionality seems to be almost identical to the SuperEgo. The switch on the SuperEgo, unlike the switch on the Freeze, is quiet.

Personally, I think the normal is the better option - I pass the signal through a Zoom MS-70CDR in the effect loop. The Superego plus has built in modulation, but the Zoom MS-70CDR's modulation is much, MUCH more flexible, and the added cost of Superego + Zoom MS-70CDR is roughly the same as the Superego Plus.
I had uploaded this earlier in the thread (i.e. last year), but I think this is the value of using the effects loop. Forgive the noodling but here's a demo where I put some eq, reverb, modulation in the effect loop. The frozen signal sounds much more organic this way.

Hi, did anybody try the TC Electronic Infinite pedal?
TC Electronic | Product | INFINITE SAMPLE SUSTAINER
How does it compare with Freeze / Plus / Superego?
Thanks a lot,
dario

So far my TC Electronic pedals have broken (Nova Delay, Ditto 4) and dealing with TC Electronic service was useless. I personally have decided to never buy another TC product.

I had a Ditto 4 go out twice. I agree their website and support are horrible.
