Despite it is discontinued, and despite it doesn't seem to have collected the love it deserves around the jazz guitarists community, I am completely happy with my GB15.

You can see it as a slightly thicker GB10, with a slightly thicker neck as well, just one PU (the neck one, of course, which is the only one I need), and instead of the common sunburst or natural colour of its little sister, a translucent red varnish which is nice once you get used to it.

Mine plays like butter, with its Prestige neck, and keeps in its sound the wood of a whole forest.

Pretty well my sentiment in relation to my AFJ95.

On first sight a little heavy in the build department, but properly set up with TI flats and a Seth Lover in the neck, it is definitely a keeper.

Fit, finish, and build quality easily equal to any of the hundreds of Peerless (excellent though most of them are).

Only one mention, as far as I noticed, for the Metheny models, which I think are very high-quality guitars.

In my opinion, having owned a BUNCH of Ibanez archtops, the PM200 is the second best I’ve seen.

The SJ500 is insanely great and my favorite.

I can’t understand why it was never sold in the US.

Is the GB15 slightly wider across the bouts than a GB10?

What do you mean by thicker?

Yes, the PU rings and the pickguard used to be cream colored and the tailpiece used to be the metal one.

    Cheers,

Yes, gb15 is a little bit wider than gb10. Maybe 1 or 2 cm.

There is something about Ibanez that is compelling and addictive for me. Probably the vast range of products and price points along with an interesting history. Also, excellent and consistent quality.I own an AMV10A and a JSM10. I have owned an AS153, AF75, and AS93 in the past as well as a nylon stringed acoustic. All good to great guitars. I will have my current ones until I die. The AMV10A is the most comfortable guitar I have ever played. I am surprised that I don't hear more positive reviews. It sounds great as well. The JSM10 sounds an plays amazing (the others that I mention above were owned on the path that lead me to the JSM10). Perfect quality as well. It is my jigging guitar. The nylon acoustic was highly playable, but just OK sound wise. However, I think it was less than $300 new. I replace it with an $800 Cordoba. I must say that I am not a fan of their acoustic guitars.I also have a few Eastman's. Interesting enough, but I never have bonded with them like I have the Ibanez'.

I love Ibanez as well. I still have my first good guitar, a 1981 AR-50, which I got in 1997, and also a 2013 AS-93. I have had several other Ibanez guitars, but the ones mentioned are currently in my stable.

My 2 Ibanez guitars. I got the AG75 (the poor man's GB) when they first came out in like 2003 (?) – added a wooden bridge sometimes which made a big difference. No other modifications so far, but I recently won a Seymour Duncan Jazz Humbucker on Ebay. Will try it in that guitar to see if it makes a difference. The GB10 is a recent aquisation and I love it. I played some rehearsals and a Jam with it so far and it seems to everything I hoped for. Nice and versatile tones and it can be played loud without feedback (the AG75 can do this too!). On the jam we played everything from jazz to hiphop and reggea and the GB did all of that great. It also worked well in our organ trio.

One thing I appreciate about Ibanez is that they've always offered a good stock of lefty guitars. I know this thread is focused on the archtops, but I like their vintage solid bodies too. My current stock of Ibanezes include a lefty 78 Ibanez Les Paul-like PF-200 and lefty 85 Strat-like RS-135. The RS-135 is actually one of my main go to gig guitars.

    Mine... 2019 GB10 Model.

Not exceptionnel but very nice professional tools. The best way to take the mini-humbucker sound on stage !

During this Covid mess I added a few more Ibanez guitars to my collection, an AAF207 "Jerry Sims" 7 string and an AJ307 Jumbo acoustic/electric flattop 7 string. Both are '98s. The 207 needs a bit of fretwork after I get vaccinated (whenever that will be) but it plays pretty well right now.

I've always been happy with Ibanez. I'm on a quest to own all their Jazz and acoustic 7s. No idea why.

For me, two archtops stand out from the pack. The 2461 Johnny Smith and the FA800, both from the early/mid 1970s when Ibanez really were at their apogee for archtops.
Additionally, for the Scofield sound with an edge of hair, the early AS200s with first generation super 58 pickups are tremendous.

Mostly the price, I recently got an AS120 that is just fantastic... the only other brand with such quality at those price, that I have found is Comins models made overseas, which are also wonderful

Not a hijack, but an aside; I had no idea Bill Comins was off-shoring a line of archtop builds. The Comins GCS-16-1 Archtop Vintage Blonde looks beautiful and has kick-started my GAS! The world is full of so many beautiful instruments!

So much for a custom tele build!

I know this is a resurrected thread, but I have to tip in my Artcore Expressionist AG95QA. It has earned its place among my "daily" performers.
