I believe Bernstein's Zeidler has Koa wood...

    PTChris were are you?
    Nice Jorge!

Bernstein's zeidler has flamed maple, saw that in his workshop. Didn't ask but, that was for sure maple.

    You're right, I was confused!

I would urge you to stick with a spruce top. Koa is beautiful but I have my doubts about it being a suitable wood for a top.

Thanks Jason, that was my luthier's take too. Koa sides and back and spruce top.

Wow Jorge, sounds like a great plan ... And lots of fun to worry about all the small and big details. Around here we have a phrase saying something like "anticipated fun is the purest form of joy" .... don't know about that but waiting til the end of the year will be tough I guess :-( Good luck with everything ... And once it is there please let us hear how it sounds!

Unlike Feet, I really dig S-holes (sans boo). Quite often I wonder about some luthiers' choice of f/sound holes for their instruments, but the ones with S-holes to my eye always look good. Not a fan of really large f-holes - they sometimes can be a bit dorky looking.

Also, unlike PTChris, I like the D'Aquisto tailpiece (with the height adjustment slots to change the break angle )

Thanks a lot Frank! It will be hard to wait but 1) it will be worth it 2) I can't exactly complaint, my X-500 is a great guitar!

I am actually backing out on the forum almost 100% - except for this thread, which I am keeping active. Everyone's been extremely helpful! So count on some updates - and some pictures, sounds when I have it.

I really dislike a-holes. I've known it all my life :-)

So... my luthier got a really old Framus on a deal in need of restoring and offered me a "package deal" for the two, which I was really good so I accepted.

Here are the first pictures from the Framus restoring, signature model build will start next. This has solid maple backs and sides and a cedar top with some spruce for stability. Neck will be new, mahogany with ebony board and exact same shape as my X-500. Pickup will be a 36th Di Marzio mounted as a floater with a solderless system. Original tailpiece, ebony bridge and schaller tuners. Finish will be some sort of sunburst, probably.

Will keep everyone posted F-Holes and Tailpiece Design-20141021_234545-jpgF-Holes and Tailpiece Design-20141021_234627-jpg

Those are pix of an older Framus body with a new neck blank leaning on it, yes?

Given my general interest in German archtop guitars, how about a straight picture of the front of the Framus body?
    Please.

Well if I go back there before the job is done, sure!! But I think my next visit will be to pick this beauty up... Its a 50s model.

    Cool!

I have three old Framus guitars: a '75 Missouri, a '76 thinline that's either an Atlantic or a Sorrento and a little beat 5/1 (great blues guitar!). I have owned and sold a '68 thinline Atlantic.

I've seen a luthier here in the Netherlands do the same thing: fixing new necks to old Framus guitars, forgot his name though...

    Curious about the result!
