plus, I know metheny doesn't use a pickguard but it takes a lot of audacity to sell an archtop guitar for $3500 and not include a pickguard with it.
You do not seem to be very consistent about your opinions on these guitars over the years. Since I've been interested in the Metheny models I, time to time, look for news reviews on these guitars, and I think I read somewhere that you, after selling your PM120 because it was "too dark", you tracked it down and re-bought it because you realized that you liked the guitar and that its "thunky sound". It looks like you have a love/hate realtionship with them?

    PM20 or PM200, I'd guess.

    10 month old thread.
Jack has played more amps and guitars than most people but he keeps on looking.

Jz I'm selling my Guild X-700 for £1499

Es-175 scale length and warmer than the sun on a sunny summers day.

Its bruised but plays like you wish a Gibson should. If your interested let me know. Truss rod works, everything works, just has some cosmetic issues that are purely that and mostly to the back.

Has the nicest smoothest high E which the 175 can often be too brittle on. Also the bass response is excellent and tight, very in the pocket unlike a lot of 175's that just sound muddy.

It's also slimmer than a 175 but about half an inch. It is a little heavy though but that makes it very practical. Its been my Fav for some years in the price V:S quality/sound department.

    OHSC too.

There are all kinds of ways to go if you are giving up on the ES-175. Personally, I would just look around for the right ES-175. They are THE dark sounding laminate-body archtop, suitably strung and in the right hands.

The CC-model mentioned above could be a great option. Every one I have played has been a superior guitar--so much for Norlin-era guitars being duds).

My favorite non-Gibson guitars of this type are the ones made by Matsumoku in the 70s and 80s. Every one has been a great guitar. They play superbly and they get a terrific, dark tone. I have owned a Matsumoku copy of the Gibson Super-V for about ten years that I will probably never sell. It is just too well made and sounds too good. It is my main gigging guitar.

I would look out for the Aria Pro II PE-175 (Herb Ellis model). It is basically an ES175 guitar with an L5 tailpiece (and a soundpost under the bridge). I caught Ellis concerts during the period when he was playing this guitar--it is great.

The PE-180, the one I own, is lam-maple topped and larger. It is the size of an L5, with a Super 400 neck.

This thread was started almost 11 months ago, and Jack hasn't been active for many months. Given his earlier posts, I bet he has bought and sold more than once since then.
