Has anyone tried the Strymon Big Sky with their arch top? I'll admit, it's probably overkill for a jazz guitarist, but you can easily dial in a nice, warm, buttery reverb that does not overpower. I have a Mad Professor Silver Spring that is nice when plugged into my Rivera 55 Jazz Suprema, but the Big Sky is a quantum leap beyond.

If you are referring to the Mad Professor, it isn't really a spring reverb.

Thank's everybody for your participation . I havé juste tried today à HOF at home for 1 hour... Â lot of options, definitively better that the DV mark built in reverb... But I don t know ... I didn't find the sound I was looking for, especially with the Carbon copy on... The sound was too much muddy, lake of definition... I need to go deeper in details about set up and the combination with a delay...
    Any trick around ?

When you're using both a reverb and a delay, you've got to use less of both than you think you need, because they kind of reinforce each other. I set the mix knob on my Carbon Copy very low. The Regen knob as well. Same with the reverb. I'm not looking for a big effect, just a little space around the sound.

But you might find the combination of those two pedals doesn't work for you. I like the Carbon Copy because it's very transparent. It makes my sound bigger without too much of the Pat Metheney thing happening.

I never got happy with my HOF, though I know plenty of plays like it.
I got very happy with my Polara with no effort at all.

carbon copy is analog and dark by nature. that may be part of it. the hof should have some fancy features if you want to hook it up to your computer and play with the parameters. play with the mix knobs, or maybe compensate on the amp a little.

maybe on the tc electronic website you'll find a tone print that works better for you, or maybe combines the two.

Hard to say but try the basics: put the delay before the reverb. Then adjust the reverb as You like with no delay on. Then add some delay. You might want to decrease the delay after that.

    Good luck!

Hof is bit bad for price bit quality of Neunaber is higher .
True doesn't have simulatipn of spring or other but it is the best reverb I ever hear.exept Strymon that I have never hear.

As pointed earlier, the CC is a dark delay.. so I would use a bright reverb to counter it, ie tone at the hof as high as possible. Also I would try to separate the two fx as most as possible, the delay is a delay and the reverb is a reverb. So I would use the time on the CC probably close to max (550ms) and a small decay reverb.

I am also not the biggest fan of the stock sounds on the HOF. Perhaps I like the plate reverb the best. I have mine practically always on the Robben Ford Toneprint that sounds very good to my ears and also integrates nicely into a band sound. It is along the lines of a spring reverb but without the tone artifacts (that some people like for their authenticity (and that the Boss FRV-1 does in spades) but I'd rather not have them). Try this - works for me.

It is similar for me with the Flashback. That is why the TC mini pedals that just have one Toneprint are the right deal for me (they are also cheaper). I don't need 15 different reverbs, just one that I like :-)

I just bought the Boing pedal out of curiosity after I learned about it in this thread. I liked it(s simplicity) very strong build. I have a tendency to use the reverb pedal with a battery however, since it is usually the only effect I use. I had good experience with RV-7, HOF (mini and full) and Arena, Tone Bug (noisy though). I like non-metallic, mostly warm reverb but sometimes I would want the access to a brighter tone.

Funny, but few mentioned how quiet the reverb units are.

I have two pedals which I use for reverb only but are large and unwieldy.

My Boss multi effect ME-33 has nice tones but for recording quiet passages it has a low hiss, which makes it unusable.

My ZOOM GFX-8 has great sounding reverb and delay but it's a behemoth. I do not use any OD effects on either.

Of those stand alone reverb pedals mentioned, which are (if possible) DEAD silent?

I would sacrifice some flexibility on a limited reverb envelope but not suffer any noise at all.

My RV-7s are dead silent. I think the mini HOF is too.

My HOF Mini seems dead silent. I can't hear any difference at all in the level between having it connected and disconnected. And the TonePrint technology is great. Changing the reverb settings from a phone is ingenious, quick and easy.
