I'm not allowed to buy socks anymore either. They go in the dryer and they never come out. They're in a parallel dimension with all my old picks.

Mine come in packages on 10, so a pack in my gig bag, and a few in one of these little leather pockets that's on my key ring. No I don't use V-picks. I also have one "woven" in the strings of all my guitars.

I have a old round plastic case a set of strings came in. I don't remember the kind of strings it was a long time ago, but on bottom of case it say General Music Strings LTD, Made in Great Britain. So its my main pick stash then have a few in my guitar tool bag, and try to keep one in my pants pocket.

But I swear pick can teleport to other dimensions! I can sit in a room by myself drop a pick and it is no where to be seen again.

I'm starting to wonder about the connection between Italian culture and picks. I'm not Italian but I keep mine in an ashtray from a hotel I liked in Matera some time back. The other is some Murano glass from a classy shop in Venice.

    I've used picks alone.
I've substituted one pick for another.
    I've lied to get picks.
    I've stolen to get picks.
I use picks when I wake up and before I go to bed.
I avoid people and places who don't use picks.
I lie about how many picks I have.
Using picks interferes with my sleeping and eating.
The thought of running out of picks terrifies me.
I think I might have a pick problem.

I don't need to talk - I can quit using picks whenever I want (as soon as I find the right strings). *

Back to the original post, I keep picks all over the place. Little tins on the shelves, pockets, night stand, woven into the guitar strings, in the case, wherever. Never know when you might need a pick.

    * Spook: if you want to meet in the Springs, send me a mail.

My wife sewed together a small bag that I have velcroed on the back and attached it to the inside of my strap. All my picks are in there. That makes it easy to reach in and grab or store a pick.

I carry several in my wallet, I keep a few in each guitar case, I have some sort of tin I keep a bunch in (which I think originally had jellybeans in it) and I also have a fishing tackle box in which I keep all the rest of them along with some strings, winders, capos, etc. I have a lot of picks.

To the "Casa Dante" guys: can I walk there from the PATH? They have a website but all the links are broken and I don't know Jersey City that well. I can get to the PATH very quickly from where I work.

Oh, yes! It's a 6 minute, 3 block walk from Journal Square to Casa Dante. Absolutely worth the time and effort. You'll become an addict! SMILE!

Here's the long Google Maps URL that will lead you there:

The key ring pouch seems interesting. Is it like a sigil/medalion/etc. that guitarists would use to identify each other and give knowing nods and such? Is there additional identification like hand signals in the form of chord shapes that I would need to know?

This is why it's a good idea to get down some Wes-style thumb picking!

I have a spare pick in a cable clip fastened to the underside of the pickguard with the self adhesive uretane foam tape (cheap, easy to remove, doesn't leave traces, is invisible). For example this one (several kinds will work):

There's a shelf above the washing machine in our laundry room that usually holds a couple of picks that I leave in pants pockets. I have an Altoids tin full of picks I don't like anymore in my desk, and several in the dashboard thingie that replaces an ashtray in newish cars. Lately I like a purple .96 Dunlop USA pick with a picture of an alligator on it.

Thanks! Man, that's detailed. I'll have no problem finding it.

I just bought these on Sunday and realized this will soon make a great pick case:

There's a flip top that opens from the grip on the right.

If you're thinking of going there for lunch, try to give me a heads up on when. If you're not going to be with others . . and you would like some company . . I'll try to work it into my schedule to meet up with you for lunch. It would be great to meet you . . . and any reason to go to "The Dante" . . is reason enough for me. Maybe we could talk boles into it as well.

i play fingerstyle, but i do collect guitar picks just for fun. i get one whenever i visit a music store—i even have one from "the fret shop," which was the music store of choice in chicago's hyde park community in the 1960s/'70s. i have a couple from japan, local music stores here in north carolina, and of course, souvenir picks from companies like fender and gibson. i stash 'em in an old film canister.

It's in the envelope and will go out in tomorro's mail. It's not a Heritage Guitar Company pick . . . it's a HOC . . Heritage Owners Club pick. They were giving them out at the PSPIII gathering I attended back in 2010 . . . . (before I got booted out of the club )

That would be great. This is actually my weekend, Wed. and Thurs., but I think after Labor Day they may switch me to "normal person" hours where I'm off Sat. and Sun. You're on the shore, aren't you? That's quite a haul Patrick! Mass transit is my transportation mode so it's probably a haul for me too (railroad, #1 local, Penn, Path). But not too bad.

One reason I go to these places, besides my love of Italian food, is that I recommend to tourists where they should go to eat. Many of them stay in Jersey because Manhattan hotel prices are ridiculous.
