Jeff, you don't need us to sway you either way, cuz the day this thread stops nobody will even care... but if you have that guitar, and you pick it up for a month solid and find yourself saying "Hey, I never felt so good!" or "Did I just play that?", then you've something that is way cheaper than the drugs it'd take you to feel that way.

Forget us. It sounds like there's a place in your life for a very reasonably priced dream guitar.
Remember all those checked boxes AFTER you're playing something that makes somebody say "Hey you sound good!" and keep working with that guitar. Nobody can put a price on satisfaction.

I think it's visually beautiful. I like both the inlays and the color and I vastly prefer solid bodies. My only complaint would be the modern neck. I much prefer a chunky 50's profile but I could almost certainly live with it as is.

My best guitar is a Heritage 575. The headstock has absolutely no influence on how good that guitar is.

As for humbucker/single coil imbalance, I would likely never use the bridge pickup...as I mentioned, I already have a real tele.

You need to check before buying how this Tele plays.
There are several versions of Yamahs Tele.
The expensive ones are made in Japan and the cheaper ones are probably made in Indonesia.
These Teles made in Japan are twice as expensive.

While I don't know anything about the particular model in question, there's a Yamaha Pacifica Strat style with a neck humbucker at the music shop where I teach.
It's my go to when I don't bring my guitar.
Well built, beautiful sound, quite versatile,....
I would just buy the darn thing, but I'm not really a Strat guy, and I really don't need another guitar

IDK. It seems like there are certain physical aspects to constructing an archtop that don't apply to a solidbody, so some of the homogenaity would seem to be borne of necessity.

But f-holes have been around for centuries and the vast majority of archies do have them/imitate that styling, so I gotta give ya a point there.

I don't suppose that modern construction techniques rule out a flying-v archtop :-) either, so I guess I have to mostly agree with you. Confirmation bias...I guess I think of archtop players as being more about music than about emulating the cosmetic aspects of some guitar-hero-du-jour. Like there even IS an archtop guitar-hero-du-jour

If there is, he or she likely has appeared or will appear on Frank Vignola's Guitar Night!

The Fender competitors are a strong alternative, there are some with a modern standard neck.

Definitely can't talk you out of one because you may have talked me into one. Finally, a tele shaped Pacifica that isn't the egregiously priced Mike Stern model. With a neck humbucker, too!

    Jeff,

It looks good and checks a lot of boxes as you say. Two things you might consider. It does have stainless steel frets which some people say sound different (I have no experience with this). The "Reflectone" pickups are a bit of an unknown. I think I saw a review on YouTube that said they are a bit "HiFi" sounding and might lack mids.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Hmmm, paint job aside, it looks like there may be a Mike Stern tribute band in your future. Got a pitch-shifted chorus yet?

Good looking guitar, tele without being tele.

Yamaha, so basically bomb proof and good sounding.

    Failing to see a downside.

I play a Fender but a lot of knowledgable people seem to dump on the non Custom Shop modern guitars

Yamaha might be more bang for buck. But there is an element of ‘brand premium’ creeping in here albeit less so….

Might be worth checking out FGN (Fujigen own-brand.)

I've been wondering about those, very attractive and relatively reasonably priced.

Actually just checked price and they are quite a bit more expensive, the sub 1k ones are made in Vietnam, which for me kind of defeats the point of the brand. I’m sure they are good guitars

I mean…. I tried a Harley Benton the other day. Good guitars have never been cheaper.

But I think FGN come in slightly under the big Japanese brands so probably worth a look if you are in the market for an MIJ guitar.

Oh right, I forgot about the "Made in Japan vs Somewhere Else in Southeast Asia" quality/price tier thing, which a couple of companies are playing semantic games with, calling one "Made in Japan" (MIJ) and the other "Tuned Up in Japan (JPT).

I should mention where this is coming from...

A little over a year ago I bought a very inexpensive Ibanez strat style. ANd it's awesome. Just a great guitar. Made in Indonesia...around the same time my dad, a long time piano player and occasional strummer, got a Yamaha Pacifica strat style for himself...in right about the same price range. The guitars are actually pretty similar in feel, both modrn takes on a strat-ish guitar. They're good instruments.

I've debated putting a neck humbucker in my tele for years, and yeah, it's reversible, but I see no need to modify a guitar that's already great as is. Ibanez doesn't really do a t-style...they have one model that's...well...ugly. And there's the Talman thing, but those are kind of still rocking the vintage vibe thing.

Knowing that Yamaha offers good quality at around this pricepoint (well, and even lower) and having played one of the roughly $1000 Yamaha strat styles (and having really liked it) has me thinking...

Anyway, good stuff to chew on. I figured the color would be a little polarizing! Wouldn't make a move til after summer anyway, I don't make any extraneous purchases before summer, since I'm not getting paid.

I don't believe anyone likes that color who is not
    A) seeking attention
    B) Trying to prove to themselves or others how open minded they are
    C) Trying to be cute literally, or in a tongue in cheek way

Perhaps Jeff is channelling his inner Barbie? - or does Ken like pink too? I suppose he must to be with Barbie.

When it comes to women, I do like that color (your imagination can go wherever you want with that), guitars not so much. I have a wine-red guitar that I did not love at first, but it has since grown on me. I suppose a pink guitar could end up similarly.
