Several days ago there was a listing for an 18" Campellone Deluxe. The listing was met with much scrutiny and suspicion, with more than one members accusing the seller of fraud. That thread was deleted, but before it was I posted that I would contact the seller. I heard back from Noah Gershwin this morning and learned that the listing was legit and the guitar has been sold. I only mention this because there seems to be a desire to be the first to claim fraud and sully a seller's listing/reputation, often without any proof given. It's important to "have each other's back" in the JGO community to protect against fraud. Personally, I would like to see a bit more forethought and discretion when we post to this forum. Am I wrong?

I can confirm it was indeed real. It was delivered this morning. It's in perfect condition, practically unplayed. Here it is with is Campellone brethren.

Agree in principle. But would argue that there has been a lot of fraud on here--one more than a year ago, my L-5. On the rare occasions when the OP replies to suspicion, it's a weak response, and a lie, then they disappear. Mostly, when one or more us suspect, and then post, the OP never bothers to stand up for his listing. References are important, obviously, and there have been a lot of those, recently. Maybe the seller's guidelines can be revised to encourage references before posting?

So naturally when a new member shows up selling a high priced instrument, savvy folks on this board are wary. In this case I noticed that the seller's ID was easily determined by his user name which matched his web page, confirming he was a pro guitarist. What that disclosure did not confirm however, was if he was the actual party listing the guitar...or if that was a scammer using his identity as cover for his/her fraud. That's where the potential for a scam remained in my view.

This is an amazing forum, filled with extremely skilled, knowledgeable musicians and fans of jazz guitar. Also, there is a kind of 'brotherhood' (and sisterhood) here, with folks looking out for one another when something looks fishy, suspect or potentially fraudulent. Seller guidelines would shore up the process and improve the JGF environment even more.

This has been discussed many times.
There used to be a minimum post rule before being able to post something for sale, something I'd like to see brought back especially since fraud is more rampant than ever before, but this is all up to Dirk.

I didn't see the listing, was the price realistic? (versus unusually low).
If sellers will adhere to the forums posting rules, it will be less of an issue: Selling Stuff? Read here first!
Note rule #7 on that page: "Any posts violating these rules will be deleted."
If the seller has few if any forum posts, it is sensible to be skeptical, just as one would be if, say, a Reverb or eBay seller had zero sales to his name.

I look forward to your NGD, Andrew! What a trio

I don't know why the for sale thread was deleted. I googled the seller's name and discovered and posted his website, complete with contact information. Glad the guitar was sold and hope the buyer enjoys it for years to come.

Nice!! Looks a lot like mine, except for the pickguard.

there was no price posted. That was another issue the ad had.

Which, is kind of a double edged sword because it needs time to break in. I can already hear a difference today after one day of playing it. Of course, the build quality and fit & finish are what we’ve come to expect out of a Campellone: nothing short of perfection.

This probably won't be a well liked suggestion but I would suggest a 50 or 100 post minimum before being allowed to utilize the classified section as a buyer or seller. It'll cut down on fraud on both ends. Not sure if that's workable as a solution but that, as well as 2 factor verification, are used to cut down on fraud on other guitar forums I am familiar with.

Curious, have you found that the sound changed whatsoever on the other Campellone guitars you own? I’m skeptical that it will happen at all despite knowing some here will argue until they’re blue in the face. Nothing changed, but maybe the brightness wearing off of the strings, in a day no doubt about that. Congrats on the new guitar at any rate.

Sounds like an 18” guitar without a hint of brightness. Congratulations!

I cannot totally agree more! For some reason it seems there are a few "members" here who basically like to bully and intimidate newer members and behave as if this is "their" personal site. As we all should be aware of "caveat emptor". While there is a need to not be taken by a disreputable seller, it wears on me when I read some of the responses to an honest post by a newer member who may be trying this site for the first time. I have been a member since 2009 (who's with me??) and yet I am reluctant to sell much on this site (and I have much) due to some of the nastiness and "better than..." attitude that I come across. If i'm calling anyone out, take it personal...

But would buyers need to write 3 posts before buying something?

Absolutely. Easy sells!

However, some members are quite a bit judgmental of those, who in their excitement to belong, may not always follow the hard-set rules dotting the i's and crossing the t's like some veterans do. Every new guitar seller coming to this site is not trying to fleece everyone and should not be treated as if they are. Just as I ask for, a little forgiveness and courtesy along with respect is greatly appreciated. Guys and ladies, in conclusion, let's talk music and show our fine guitars! Thanks for letting me clear some air.

I don't care if you just joined the forum either because maybe you realize the type of guitar you have and what the forum likes. That said you must give the forum break of ebay or reverb or any sight that charges a fee to sell. If you sell something here, do not just like it to Reverb and the same price. One this forum my belief is that one can get a guitar at a fair price better than probably any big time dealers. However, it is not a fire sale one does not have to accept a low-ball listing but use common sense. If you know what common sense is then, clearly you will see what Reverb lacks for many posting.
I don't make comments on the price if it is posted that is the seller business not mine. I will make a comment on things if I see something wrong and have no issue with doing that. Nit picking to me is not that at all. Nit picking to me is very different has to do with selling and condition. The Campellone at the price listed was a tremendous buy no question.
-
But that's the thing, no sales price was stated. Did the buyer get a deal? I don't know.
