Would you spend $5k for a Gibson Farlow if serial number was partially scratched out?

Jack Z I’m usually not a Heritage fan, but I actually prefer the
H-550 model to the Gibson Tal Farlow reissue model. Plus they can be had for half o the asking price. I believe theirs one TGP at the moment.

I much prefer the tal and it's built better. The scarfed bracing was a bad idea on the 550 and if you notice, the older ones tops have flattened out. That being said, it's at least a tonal cousin and i do like them. I think the one on tgp seems a little high

Heritage 550 normally uses 2 solid parallel braces they might add 2 small braces to this general configuration. They never used kerfed bracing to my knowledge on any guitar and the last kerfed braced Gibsons were made in the eary/middle 1930's.

$5k is a lot for a Tal IMO.

FYI you can purchase the one you're looking at directly from the merchant for a lot cheaper than reverb. Tal Farlow Sunburst Master Model 1995?? | ???????????????????????????????????????????

Their list price is ¥698,500 including tax, so it should come to ¥635,000 if you subtract tax, or $4041.93 plus shipping.


As for the serial number, I doubt if someone stole it they would just scratch out one digit.

I would not hesitate to buy from Kurosawa - of course after asking all the important questions and getting the "right answers" and maybe some high res fotos of "questionable" areas.
A few years ago i bought a LeGrand from them and it turned out to be one of the best deals i ever made.
I believe that if the guitar does not fit the expectations playingwise/soundwise, for this price it will be easily sold on today's market. (at least here where i am ;-).
