Yup. Which is interesting, as the EHX and TS tubes do not look, or sound, identical. They are closer in sound to each other than they are to Sovtek or JJ, but they are not the same tubes simply being rebranded. At least not all the tube models (EHX/TS).

… sometimes valves are places into amps or pedals as hype… there are real mini high spec valves out, that are hit with enough juice to have a true valve thing happen… not sure about the mentioned above vox. I do know that vox as a brand has played the hype game in the past.

i 've played a few thousand gigs over about 30 years.. Maybe 70% of them tubes, the other 30% analog solid state amps, or going direct with an analog or multi effects amp sim. Some amps rotate, some I've had for decades. I've had a Boogie blow a fuse once before the gig, a Henriksen dying on the last tune, and a Zt Lunchbox reverb blow its speaker. That's about it for amp problems. Tube amps have been more reliable for me.
But i take care of the gear. It travels in car seats, stays away from dust and humidity, if i know we have to drive far or play next to the sea i won't be using a vintage amp, etc. I also have a good technician check the amps every few years, or if i get any funky sounds.
I haven't had that good luck with new JJs. Usually they 'll be replacing old tubes, or tubes selected from the manufacturer for an expensive amp, so i would always prefer how the amp sounded with the old tubes. I have even sold an amp cause i couldn't make it sound as good with new tubes..!

This. My experience to a T. JJ power tubes last longer than preamps, Tung-Sol's sound better, but crap out unexpectedly. TADs are similar. Originally Posted by ruger9

I think at the end of the day, the new 'Western Electric' has been in business over 20 years, and they make 1 tube that costs ~$700. I'd LOVE to see affordable tubes that guitar amps actually use from these guys, but my gut says it will be at least another 5-10 years and the prices will be well over $100 each.
I'm happy to wait and see what happens because my ToneMaster Twin has been perfect for every thing I've thrown at it so far, so I can leave my tube amps home and play them at living room volume probably until I die with the tubes they have in them now.

You can make any amp sound pretty darn good if you play your guitar well while plugged into it. If you focus on the most important thing, everything else becomes less and less significant. I like tube amps and SS. Ponder for a moment on what it must be like for 99% of piano players who are paired with a whole new instrument every time they walk into a different building. If you think you need $1500 of specific tubes, you might be taking yourself a bit too seriously or have lost focus of the most important thing.

The Griffons Vendeen (there are four versions of them) are known as "The Friendly Breed", and sure enough, the pup had the workers at JFK in love with him within minutes.
When you own a hound, you become part of their pack for the rest of their lives, and he was part of our family for twelve wonderful years.
As they say about marriage, "If you want love, go out and buy a dog (preferably a Briquet)"

We have a Stabijhond and 3 cats. I tried to buy into the dog kool-aid but I'm definitely a cat person.

Not to mention that my cats will help me fall asleep, whereas the dog would keep me awake with her incessant movements
Heh, the dog was about 4 months old when we found our youngest cat, then hardly 1 month old. She adopted her despite her young age (more as a toy/playmate maybe) and the kitten was perfectly happy about that. But reaching adulthood she "weaned" the dog when she didn't really change her behaviour. She still tolerates the invasive dog affection (if that's what it is) where the other 2 cats don't but she'll never go seek out her former playmate (except maybe when she's fast asleep).

If you can't tolerate a gentle breed like the Stabijhond, it's no use trying to convert you to the Griffons Vendeen.
Even a French trombonist I used to play with drew a complete blank every time I mentioned the GVs, so I guess they're familiar to only boar hunters.
Perhaps the Stabijhond's Netherlands origin had an effect on their psyches. Exposure to all that second-hand cannabis smoke could've been passed down to their collective unconscious, resulting in a chemical imbalance that now permeates the breed.
A good, canine psychopharmacologist might be able to able to put her on a special regimen that would make her more cat-like after a period of experimentation, but that's entirely up to you.

Unlikely given that the breed is a rather rural breed from the east of the country. Since you mention boar hunting, if it'd been up to me we would have gotten a Cursinu (there's a breeder not far from me). Of course that might not have changed anything... Originally Posted by sgcim
