They used to be my favorite string years ago, and I decided to pick up a set. Wow; inflation has hit that product hard. So funny, sweetwater has a two-year installment plan for a set:

last time I bought a bunch of TI strings I bought a whole bunch of them. I got out on Amazon and bottom and guess what they came from. Chicago Music Exchange.
So look around someplace besides Sweetwater

I'm still loving the TI Benson flats a friend gave me almost 4 years ago. Great sound and intonation. Fwiw they have a lot of playing time on them, my #1, though I have replaced the 2 plain strings. I do not have the corrosive sweat some are burdened with; nickel hardware is not tarnished either. I also play with a fairly light touch.
I don't know if TI round wound bebops are known for longevity? I've been using Pyramid round nickel strings on my acoustic archtop, they're ok , but I want better than ok.

Overpriced and overrated. Great strings but so are D,'Addario Chromes.
People get way too hung up on this shit. All your favorite records? There was like like 3 choices and all of them were barbed wire dipped in sulphuric acid.

There is a big difference between TI flats and DA chromes in terms of tone and feel. If you cannot hear and feel that, I guess you are lucky, as you get to save the money. I will stick with the TI flats myself, as I can hear and feel the difference. Originally Posted by mr. beaumont

I don't believe I've ever disagreed with anything you've ever posted Jeff but switching from Chrome's to TI Benson's was a dramatic improvement in sound and feel for me. I'm not a gear head by anyone's measure but some things are worth a little extra. For that matter, given that I'm still happily using the same strings years later, I've saved money playing TI's.

In my experience round wound TIs last 3-4 times longer than others. My criteria for a change is when the strings get problems with the correct pitch of the notes over the fretboard.

On Amazon.it the TI Jazz Swing Flat Wound Set 12-50 is sold for 19.90 euros (about 21.5 USD).
I like the Thomastik Flatwound strings and their price is good for me.
In my experience for smoothness, intonation and duration over time, the DOGAL “Carbonsteel Evolution System” flatwound strings are the best.
These strings (very expensive and hard to find) are made in Italy (near Venice, if I’m not wrong) and I don't know if they are exported to other countries.
I also keep some sets of Dogal flatwound strings from the sixties, a gift from my uncle. They are the famous Dogal green label, but I think that after all these years they are no longer usable.

I usually pick up 2-3 sets a year even cheaper when they have sales promotions of 10-15% off, the most reliable being Black Friday.
IMHO the “which is better” debate is a matter of personal taste, but I do hear/feel a difference. BTW, Chromes seem to have jumped up to around $20 from most sellers over the last few months.

I think they are around 20 euros in Europe, so if you can buy enough sets to offset the shipping, that's the best deal for folks in the USA.
A TI .040 gauge G has a similar tension to a .024 gauge G in a guitar set of Chromes; that's a pretty profound difference in tension.

It's common for "foreign goods" to be more expensive overseas. We Europeans have experienced this forever when importing things from the US. I imagine that the importers take large profits, this seems to become trendier these days ..... . The cost for a set JS113 over here, if i order just one from musix.ch is roughly $20.50, if i order 3 of them $ 56 (including shipping). The wrap material is one difference. Also different is the core (TI is round core while DA is hex core) and string sizes (TI uses thinner string sizes on the wound strings).. Originally Posted by skiboyny

I recently purchased 2 pair’s of Bebop round 14’s for $12 each. Great buy off eBay.
And to the writer who asked, yes, Bebop rounds last forever. They’re my go to string for acoustic archtop’s.

I suspect a lot is to do with supply and demand. d’addario chromes are almost twice the cost of TI 12 swings. My jaw hit the floor when I was told they are A$45 a set a few weeks ago. And that was a 2 different speciality shops. Originally Posted by Alter

Either sign up for email notifications or check the websites frequently at Strings and Beyond, Just Strings, and Strings by Mail. They all have sales on TIs (and many other brands) at least 2 or 3 times every year, and that's when I buy my JS113s.
